K-5 Mirror "Jumpy" Videos Galaxy

The weather is hot in the summer, quite some K-5 units needed to stay indoor at air-conditioned rooms, otherwise, the following will happen! ;-D

Problems like this one caused the sales drop of 13% just now. Many shops refuses from pentax cameras due to massive QC issues.

If we get tired of mirror in the heat, we can talk Oil-Sensor issue in D7000.... It looks no brand is immune nowadays...
Is this problem like K-5 stains issue?
No, it's lubricant spilled over the sensor. Similar with what happened with the EOS 1Ds/1D MkIII
The sensor "stains" of K-5 are NOT caused by spilled lubricant. It is generally believed that it is the AA filter made by Pentax themselves melted by heat generated under the LiveView and Movie modes.
The sensor "stains" of the K-5 indeed are not caused by spilled lubricant.
The sensor stains of the D7000 and EOS 1Ds/1D MkIII _are_ (were) caused by spilled lubricant.
Nonsense. In the US, I do not know a single shop carrying Pentax on stock even 6 months ago. And I was looking for one, as I did a cross-US trip and wanted to pick up some stuff. I ended up pre-ordering.
Perhaps they are using parts from different sources and this causes the problem with some units, I guess I'm lucky (no issues). As to heat: I wonder when the first "quadcore" camera with copper heatsink and fan will hit the market :-)
This happened to me when I used improperly regulated RCR-V3 batteries in my old K100D.

Camera would freak out closing shutter and aperture any time you pressed a button. Once the batteries ran down a bit, camera would be fine.

Since battery voltage increases a bit with heat... maybe they are using off-brand batteries that are reacting the same way.

Pentax K-5 original battery has a silver circle on the bottom. All 3 I have do. Not the one in first video. Appears, a cheap replacement could be potentially linked to the problem as experienced with K100D. Interesting point to consider!
My k-5 is also affected. I wonder if Pentax is taking an action on this.

Sadly, I don't think so. They rarely acknowledged problems!
I know it is wise to buy a new product at least 6 months later. The price will come down, problems will be found and hopefully fixed, or at the very least, people can be aware of what they are getting. In this case, being Pentax, 12 months would seem more appropriate. Those who wait that long would then know about this heat problem in the K-5, which was not known earlier, and also that Pentax is being sold again and its long-term future even more uncertain. Add to that all the other issues with the K-5 or Pentax, such as focus problem under tungsten light, SDM risk, lack of lenses and lack of support from independent makers, and a general QC and service that is not what one expect for a camera costing this much, is it any wonder that these things keep happening, problems are not acknowledged and the company is the position it is now in?

I had here a Nikon 18-55 VR lens with a non working SWM. There are isues with the D7000 and the sensor too, I wouldn't buy the D7000 right now. And where's the 85mm 1.2 lens from Nikon, where is the 50mm 1.2 lens from Nikon ? Nikon lacks lenses too.

Once again a Magian list of negatives. Maybe you could also investigate the following: Nikon D 5000 that won't turn on, oil on Nikon D7000 sensor, backfocussing and overexposure with said device (see Cameralabs review), autofocus and high iso smearing with Canon, (see Karel Donc's Blog for info), high iso smearing with Olympus and Sony.
Oh, and prices: Nikon lenses and flashights, (expensive post kit lenses) Canon lenses and flashlights, ( again, expensive post kit lenses), plastic lens mounts and junk sd card doors that inspire little confidence in build quality.
Pentax has the best high iso quality of any brand, with lower noise, better resolution and saturation. But then again, it's not about the picture for some people.
Heat problem with Pentax only? Look around other sites!
Probably a poor quality/misaligned/unsecured against movement sensor for detecting the mirror position or shutter position. The camera gets the wrong data, is confused.
There are many users reporting this problem now.

I think I am the first Pentax reporter who reported the case and believed that it was a generic issue rather than an isolated case! :-)
I was about to spend $3.000 on a Pentax K5 and various lens, I have written twice to Pentax enquiring about this mirror problem and both times have told me that they have never heard about this mirror issue, I told them about these forums where these mishaps are mentioned and they seemed not to care.
I was going to pick up my K5 and lens on a holiday trip to the US next month. I wish Pentax had at least given me some assurance that they are going to fix this problem or at least acknowledged that they were looking into it.
I am going back to my initial list and choose between the Nikon 5100 the Canon D7 or ???
Any ideas?
I really wanted this camera.

They all have issues and Warranties. Make a list and HANDLE them in person to make up your mind. Nobody can do that for you...
Idea: buy the K-5.

I did, and now I am one happy photographer.

Not that I was unhappy before, the K-7 was a good camera as well, as long as you kept the ISO below 1000, or had good denoise software.
Same case here for me. I paid to order a K-5 back to May. But later on, the goods arrived and I opened five brand new boxes of the late production with serial numbers from s/n 402 to 404. All units are of different kinds of mis-alignments and QC issues. Later on, I tried another two K-5 units with a DAL35/2.4 lens and the AF accuracy and consistency under normal daylight is disappointing (actually worse than my K-r under daylight). So, I was upset and gave up finally. Maybe again, I shall see if the next Pentax body could be improved.
