Because the texture of the background is very contrasted, more than de flower. The AF makes focus on the background. As the background is uniform focus is made once to the right or a the next time to the left. It is good in both cases.

I think it is rather consistent. It focuses more on the right for the first time. Then it focuses more on the left for the 2nd time. The pattern seems to be repeating itself with very consistent degree of "off-centre-ness".
