So, why Pentax has discontinued so many DA lenses?? Even the two DA Limited Primes are Discontinued! What are the *Replacements*? Nil? (At least up to this moment there is None!) Some to Come? Something New? Some Revolution In Progress?? :-o

Prepared for the Full Frame? Run Out of Business? (IF the Demand of those Discontinued Lenses are Actually Just Too Low?) Anyway, I really hope that the previous "leaked" rumour for the "new" lens roadmap is true. And yes, Pentax hasn't updated the lens roadmap since March 3 this year. That's true. And, that 3-3 "Update" contained only Deletion of previously announced products, but not Addition!

In fact, all the happenings have just strongly hinted that the development of the DA lenses has been come to an end, at least what we can buy now are what Pentax had planned more than one year ago. Even worse, now with the discontinuation of 10 Digital Lenses, I'm much afraid that the Pentax digital system has now become a lame one, as choice is much limited for such a rather incomplete current lens system.

Update (11-27):

The Official Canadian Pentax page has been updated (about twelve hours after I posted my this Blog entry and the news was wide spreading worldwide!), all DA lenses are removed from the list/page. Well, Pentax officials do read my Blog? Welcome to be one of my readers, Pentax! ;-D

If you want to see the original page, you can view the Google Cache dated November 19 for the original page, here.

So, this act only hints that either the stuff published are totally true (but is inappropriate to tell) or there has been an error. But I do believe that it is just the former case!

Besides, there is yet a post at the Pentax Forums about the news in which my name was mentioned and my Blog was linked, but then I noticed that very shortly the PF site owner, our holy and now rich Adam, removed all those completely by editing the poster's original post and the thread was closed:-

http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/81287-10-pentax-da-lenses-discontinued.html

Adam, your iron hand is really well executed! But in order to eliminate your additional efforts to edit any PF members' posts whenever they post my name and links in the future, I just suggest that you should implement an automatic word replacement/deletion feature and your server just knows to delete any links to my site whenever your members type them in! That is very easy to do and I guarantee that you will continue to have such posts in the future! Btw, I will be glad to be the first and only one added by you into your holy PF site! Nevermind! :-)

Whilst you like to do thing like that, Adam, I shall continue to point to your site and mention your name whenever the contents are relevant and "useful"! I am just not so narrow-minded afterall!

The lenses, unlike other discontinued products, don`t have a "Date Discontinued" column...

So, that adds more mysteries to what's being going on within Pentax !
Isn't database or data-entry error at Pentax Canada the most likely answer?

I mean, it could be right, but especially given the head-scratchers on the list, probably not.

I am totally not convinced (as always) that those officially published information are "wrongly input". Well, they are supposed to be correct and the most reliable source of information, as they are *official*!

And, why just "wrongly entered" only those 10 digital lenses, but not others?
I don't think "supposed to be" counts for much. Even in Canada.

It actually looks like it's an old page, and I suspect it lists _all_ of the DA lenses from the year it was published.
Just my 3 cents, in the link you provided there also states the FA 50/1,4 was descountinued. I suppose that move isn't one off the latest discontinuations, and still we have lots of that lens in the market, so don't worry they probably have stock for couple o years to come.

The old always true statement holds again: You will get the goods as long as stock lasts (and as long as you can find it)! ;-)

Well, the implication of this discontinuation and official announcement is actually not about whether you will still find the last stock or not. But, what's going on within Pentax??
Probably thats whats going on always, pentax isn't about to shut down and isn't about to introduce a ground breaking camera. Some of those lenses are already replaced by other lenses in the lineup. I wouldent expect much. Probably few new changes in the lens line-up 645D in the midlle of next year as I suppose ( only beacouse hoya is now in charge and they mostlly keep up to their words ). A FF camera? maybe end of the 2010, but then again i think it won't change things beacouse i think it'll be similar to sony A850 not a killer of a Nikon D3, thats pentax and I agree that if pentax tries an open battle with canon and nikon their and is close, only way is to be different ( like the concept of the k-x and k-7, like k10 before and ist-d and others ). The only thing that pentax did very bad was to stick with analog cameras and not putting enough founds in digital segment ( and thats the reason why pentax suffers now from the lack of sufficient technology.
The problem is what's going on with you RH?
Still clueless aren't you?
Just wait and see - for a bunch of new lenses the next year! ;)
The DA 18-55 and 50-200 are indeed discontinued, and replaced with both the DA L and the DA WR versions.
The other lenses are not discontinued, but production stops temporarily and then production starts again.
All lenses are still available and can still be bought. No problems with availability.
It is fun to observe, how guys like you have a headache over what you cannot change and, if you want, even to influence. Who cares what happens to some business company, like Pentax. Me not. If they die, I will just switch to another maker. By the way, one other explanation for the "discontinued" list could also be that new similar lens models are going to be introdused in WR versions, if you care.
Not one single lens listed by RiceHigh is actually discontinued. Just click on the provided link and you'll see that there are no lense listed in the DA entries, only the lenses in the K, M, A, FA entries (and 645, 67, 110) are discontinued. the DA entry is EMPTY.

Maybe the lenses were really on the list but were removed because of an error. Or maybe RH just imagined that! lol
;)

Just another storm in a tea cup. Next time, verify your link or check with other sources before claiming DA lenses are discontinued. That's what good journalists do. But since RH is just about scoops with little substance, ethics probably rank 745th on the list of priorities.
It seems a little bit non-sense that Pentax is stop producing DA21 and DA40 as they are two of the favoured lens of Pentax users.
First of all they are not discounted. They are "invented" and at "historical" page.

Secondly, may be this is because they just stopped producing them right now, cause they are building future lenses for upcoming full frame.

Thirdly FA 50/1.4 and FA 35/2.0 were "officially discounted" long ago, but they were still produced as you know.
