Sounds reliable! Very good news. However I have an important question. I mainly shoot with tele-lenses. I am less interested in new DOF options. Would it necessary for me to buy a € 3.000 (!) FF body 36 MP? May be one year later an update-announcement (42 MP?) so another € 3.000 investment. I am only interested in image quality (resolution). Can we expect a much higher image quality with 36 MP FF (is this comparable with 24MP APC-S?) compared with my two K5IIS (16MP) body's? If this is the case I will buy the new FF, if not I doubt. Can someone give me a reliable answer, thanks a lot, regards André

From my own experiences, most Pentax lenses perform okay on my a7R when stopped down whilst most Pentax zooms are terrible. So, don't expect the lenses can go further with a 42M sensor, 36M in 135 has already been too many for the old film lenses!
I have several Pentax lenses, 28mm/f2.8, 50mm/f1.4; 50mm/f1.7 (better than 1.4), 100mm/f2.8 (Macro) - a very good lens plus two zooms. The performance is very good, the coating, as I have read, is one of the best (Carl Zeiss Zena and Pentax began developing the lens coatings together, then they separated later). The 100mm/f2.8 macro is very good. My other super wide angles and zooms are Tamron - with pretty satisfactory performance.
OK THX, I understand SONY a7R is 36MP and with a Pentax body-price of €2K+ (not €3K) may be it is worth the investment.
However ...... I am a llittle bit disappointed about 36MP and not 42MP. I would have seen the new(est) technology and new generation stuff for Pentax ..... For example in case of new (to develop) K-lenses perform better with 42MP.
Australian dolars are 0.7 US dollars :-) so it will be just above 2K

Good price but the sensor is of old tech and in old generation anyway.
TWEAKED sensor. And 36 MP FF sensor is the best FF sensor now - with HUGE DR.
OK so this is good news!?

it is also rumoured not to do 4K video. That is shameful for a top of the range model at this price. The new Nikon's/Canon's/Sony's (Panasonic's) will do it. Do they not realise that dslr's have been used for video for years. For me I am no longer spending money on a device that won't do photo's and 4k. I don't want to buy 2 separate pieces of kit when I know it's perfectly possible to make 1 fully functional.

This may not be a big deal to some users but for me in both personal and professional use I don't want to lug around separate video and photo gear. 4K is really useful - it renders to 1080 in better quality than video shot in 1080. It allows scope for punching in and ken burns type effects and it allows extraction of very useable photos. In fact it's the best continuous shooting you can get ie 8mp photos at 25 frames per second. I do it and It works and it's really useful.

So come on Pentax - it's not a superfluous feature.

When Sony do not sell Pentax the new sensor, they can do nothing.
it's cool that it's photo gear, first of all
