PENTAX SFX 1987, the author's first camera, my first (PENTAX) camera was "Camera of the Year" SUPER-A in 1984 (because LX was too expensive for me). I never decided to buy SFX/SF7/SFXN but waited till MZ-5 (1997) ... I like the PENTAX history till recent's K-1 / KP ....
I'm very sorry that I've never bought the SFX (maybe I will buy it second hands as a "collectors item"). I've purchased the ME-Super "between" the Super-A and the MZ-5.
I have just played with my SFX and MZ-S today. Unfortunately, my SFX' film transport broke down when I pressed the shutter release the second time! :-(
Oh that is sad. Does the SFX have plastic gears like the MZ/ZX series? I bet Eric could fix that in the states here. From what I can gather, the MZ-S should last for a long time compared to the more recent pentax film SLRs. The PZ-1P also seemed to be fairly reliable over the past few decades. If it makes you feel any better a replacement SFX can be found on Ebay for under $20 USD looks like.
