Ricoh to Abandon Sales Distribution and to Stop Mass Production for Pentax

See what PetaPixel reports. And, their quoted official Ricoh source is here (in Japanese, Google English translation here).

After all, it seems that Pentax the brand is diminishing.. :-(

Pentax has been lingering long enough. May be it is the time. Olympus first. Rumour has it that Fuji is also scaling back... Even Nikon is struggling. May be only Canon and Sony will be the remaining two main camera makers.

It is good that you see keep this blog going. I do check in regularly although not as frequently as I used to. Happy New Year to you and keep it going!!
"Stopping mass production" in favor for whatever new workshop style: That just means, that the sales numbers have declined so severely (below a minimal threshold), where owning even a small factory in a cheap-labor country isn't viable any more. With no turnaround in sight for the future (else they would have kept the factory for the hopes of a brighter future).
So nobody needs to be an expert for reading between news lines, to understand, that the decline continues.
But: Pentax is not dead yet ;)
