8th Anniversary of This Blog

Pentax the brand is declining, the Pentax cyberspace as well as the user-base are both shrinking than ever before. In fact, Ricoh does not treasure Pentax the brand in any sense nor they do put something real onto the market. There is not any exciting news nor any new products or real gear tests that worth reporting. The future of Pentax is so dark, frankly. Could this Blog reach ten years and beyond when Pentax the brand still exists or there is yet something Pentax related worth mentioning? I don't know really.. But I am not optimistic afterall! >:(

o madonna che palle! e dai!
Fifty years from now your blog will be celebrated by Pentaxians throughout the world (and other interplanetary colonies) for saving Pentax from there own self destructive policies. Thanks for being a vigilant Pentax whistleblower and watchdog for the past eight years Ricehigh! All pentax lovers should appreciate your selfless interest in trying to resurrect Pentax's glorious past legacy.
Oh please quit whining already. This is pathetic. For 8 years now you have foretold the end of Pentax, yet they still make great cameras a lot of users are very happy with. You can continue whining for another 8 years, and 8 years after that, and 8 years after that, and ... and people will still use Pentax cameras.

Such a ray of sunshine, aren't you? :p

Agreed.
The only thing to celebrate when it comes to "Pentax" is the older high end Pentax glass. As a camera company they were done a few years ago.

Pentax seemed to have been reading what the fan-boys at PentaxForums were permitted to post and incorrectly came to the conclusion that all was good with their product offerings.

How many Pentax users/loyalists may be out there in the world. Can they all pitch, whatever they can, $10, $50, $100, or whatever, to buy out Pentax from Ricoh?

Pentax had been a pioneer and innovative in the field of photography. Let us help Pentax.
Ricoh should seriously streamline the Pentax K-Mount APS-C lens line-up, prior to a full-frame release. There are already too many zoom lenses, including the new, big, slow, and ultimately unnecessary 16-85. They should also drop the over-secrecy about their plans for the future. It only increases Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. The full-frame K-mount is not the most perfect mount (a bit too narrow), but in its non-crippled form coupled with improved DC motor autofocus and keeping the screw-drive for legacy support, would make an excellent base for an awesome "universal" Pentax K camera...

Prepared to bet money on this, ricehigh? Ricoh/Pentax will be making some announcements soon that even your pessimistic view of things will be unable to rephrase as more doom and gloom.

Blah, blah, blah...Don't you reazlize that you have been predicting the end of Pentax for years, and yet, they are alive and well. The 645Z is the best camera on the market for the money, bar none. You should quit your ranting and get a life. Pick on another company for a change.

Rice, In eight years you have more than done your share of trashing the brand, while other sites have in general been praising it.
This last anniversary thread just about takes the biscuit, some ambassador for Pentax you turned out to be. Close down your site and give Pentax the best boost it ever could have!

Here is one of the gravediggers for Pentax: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/2056305025/sony-...
$1700 for the Full Frame body… the next one FF from Sony will be even cheaper for sure.
And who is APS-C Pentax without the sensors from Sony? :-)
The new age is coming: no Pentax - no cry!
I am optimistic. I don't care about the red line RiceHigh seems to hate on lenses. I care about the fact K5, K3 and 645 are top notch camera. I like the lens line-up. I whish the limited would be WR ; seems to me, it would make sense in WR camera and there are less moving parts then zoom. It could be one of Pentax niche : affordable WR line of products. I cant afford full frame in both camera, lens and increased computer speed and storage it will need. But I understand it would make Pentax more serious : but at what cost ? One or two FF camera so you have a cheaper model and a pro model to justify a spectrum of lenses ? Lenses that would spread the whole spectrum of mm from 15/28 mm to 400 mm + ? Are we taking about an 100 millions dollars of R&D and manufacturing ? Is that realistic ? I whish Ricoh will keep Pentax brand but I also would understand that, like Canon, they would like to blend and be a company with multiple division recognizable with only one brand name. I don't like the secrecy : I would like new announcement, road map and some sort of mission statement. Anyway, stop being sad and switch if you cant stand it.
The PENTAX brand will not disappear, PENTAX has just a new owner RICOH that want to invest. I don't care about red rings. May be the green one was boring ..... I true believe RICOH is developing a FF, new FF lenses including. I hope they will develop a body both to be used for APS-C and FF lenses. PENTAX user since 1984 .....

How people have short memories. Remember HOYA's hostile take over, when they wanted to rape Pentax for it's medical endoscopy line, Pentax resisted and it's biggest share holder Sparx Asset Management put pressure on for it to go ahead. Hoya fired lots of engineers which Ricoh were re-hiring (remember the AP article about it!) . It's Hoya's fault! not the original Pentax that it's behind. Ricoh have been much more active in development, then when it was under Hoya.
Why don't they just team-up with Sony? Create an adaptor to let K-mount lenses have a fully-coupled connection to the Full-Frame Emount bodies and then do what they are good at which is designing and building great glass... both in K-mount and E-mount

The Sony system has a woeful lack of lenses and Sony themselves a woeful lack optical experience whereas Pentax has a woeful lack of technology but optical ability in spades and their own lens production facilities, a match made in heaven? Sony even have a few fully-coupled adaptors for their A-mount which could be converted to K-mount with minimal effort

Dear RiceHigh, your words 5 days ago:
"The IntenseDebate Robot censored with a much more heavy hand than I do, you know, as I have never censored you guys' *opinions*, unless you guys became uncivilised. Get it? :-) "
Now I ask you: Are Pentaxfools comments civilised? Is he permitted to be uncivilised because he is a dedicated Pentax hater?
Why is Yvon Bourques comment not placed? Because he is an optimistic Pentaxian?

Rice, again congratulations on your 8 year anniversary. I hope your blog keeps going. It has been a great source of entertainment and useful information. It would be hard to live without it.

Ricoh/Pentax is truly at the crossroads. If they don't step up to the plate in the next few months I will leave. I have been investing in a parallel system for years. The smaller more innovative mirrorless cameras are the future. Everything is trending smaller. The Q doesn't quite do it for me. The GR needs at least a 24-50 lens equivalent to be useful to me.

I spent my time also expect new. Do not waste your time unnecessarily , quit Pentax ! I left Sony for A7 there a year and I am delighted
Pentax will not die. This will always remain the same . A brand that does not go out or anything gadgets colors for children. It is unfortunately no longer a serious brand , reliable and future. I kept my 3 limited FA and I left Sony. Rice continue your blog for Pentax lensen on other hybrid cameras
