kit live-streaming VR camera will be impacted by the cost reductions". You just have to pay attention to information coming from the source, rather than FUD.
3.2 billion yen were allocated for this F.Y. in order to "Increase production of digital cameras and other new business relating investment, etc" (that doesn't include R&D expenses, AFAIK).
Ricoh Theta is a growing business, and Ricoh has plans for the R Development kit (Teleexistence and Computer Vision were mentioned).
Pentax is not doing bad either, the K-1 bought them new customers.
Also, Ricoh denied that they're downsizing, less alone closing down the camera business. But, what do they know ;)

Look, the sales are already down. The top-of-the line model of their core APSC business, the K-3II, has an Amazon sales rank of only #161! Which means essentially, it is not sold any longer. No-one wants to buy the stuff.
The K-1 also has issues hindering better success, it suffers from a traditional Pentax weakness: an autofocus too bad for any serious professional or prosumer usage. You can read all about it in the dpreview review, which is backed up by other serious reviews.
And then there's the lens situation as well, and 3rd party makers don't show an interest to fill gaps, even though the K-1 is out now for a good while. Which tells us their thinking about Pentax' future.
Could Pentax survive? Probably. If even Sigma continues to make DSLR bodies with an irrelevant market share, why couldn't Ricoh do so as well. But for Sigma it's only their hobby. The new Ricoh manager probably won't accept such hobbies. New managers are hired for a purpose,
Out of curiosity, I just searched through the Amazon DSLR sales ranking, which goes from 1 to 100. Theres NO Pentax body whatsoever appearing in there any more! This is the very first time I see this. That seems to be an early supporting evidence, that Pentax has essentially lost its market.
Then I moved on to the digital camera lenses sales ranking, to see if the DSLR ranking evidence would be back up. And yes, it is, the same, no Pentax lens appearing any longer in the top 100, neither.
Now I believe, that Pentax has pretty much left the market (or actually, the market has left Pentax), on both FF and APSC line-ups.
In conjunction with the most recent of the crisis reports, I now believe that we will hear about Pentax being sold on or closed down before end of this year.

The user base shares the blame over hyping the old lenses that no one can get like the Pentax 200mmFA* macro and FA250-600.
Where's the new 85mm? Where's the NEW non-third party re-badged primes?

I'm very happy with this camera, its ergonomics, battery life, features and functionality in general. Best camera I ever owned.
