Ultimate Savior for Pentaxians who Had been Hoping for a True K-mount Mirrorless (with Eye-AF etc.)

A Chinese adaptor manufacturer has announced (Google translated English here) the world first full function K-mount to Sony E-mount adaptor, which will be made available by the end of this year 2020 (and is earlier than the launch date of the upcoming K-3 III)!

This adaptor will have screw-driving AF motor and aperture motor built-in and will support full auto functions of all K-mount lenses (possibly without any aperture block problem ;-P). The manufacturer states that the adaptor will first support A/F/FA/DA/DFA lenses which are screw-driven for the AF and will support SDM/DC/PLM AF function at a later stage via firmware upgrade.

They also mounted the three FA limited onto a Sony A7 III body via their adoptor, of which the combos look really tempting! :-D

And, their also shown a "video" to show the AF in action with the FA77 Limited, which the AF speed seems reasonably good enough, as long as the animated gif was not accelerated. ;-)

After all, I will almost certainly buy this adaptor (as I bought my A7 III two years ago) and still own more than three dozens of the Pentax or K-mount lenses (and most of them are AF ones). Possibly I shall skip and not buy the K-3 III as I found my KP is actually better for my use and shooting style. :-(

I agree concerning the Pentax KP. A great model.

I bet the K-3 III will be a complete failure for Ricoh Pentax marketing wise. Pentaxians have never been keen in pursuing fast camera with more fps and more AF points but only wanted a more accurate system. And, with that high price tag, Pentax will commit suicide themselves, as many of the Pentaxians are quite cost conscious, frankly speaking.
Can this adapter be made without infringing Pentax / Sony licenses?
Are you dealing with a magnification standard, more or less telephoto? There is no glass in the adapter?
No glass inside, only aperture lever, aperture lever motor, focus motor, focus screw and PCBs.
No glass element is required in adaptor as the back focus register distance of the K-mount is far more longer than that of the E-mount. For more details, read below:

THX! Nice developments!
Maybe they should have updated the KP on specifications, not design. But there were again Pentax fans who wanted a "real" APS-C camera (K3 successor). I certainly do not belong to that group. I don't think Ricoh can ever keep all those models (FF / APS-C small / APS-C big) updated. Better to make choices!
This is indeed a pleasant development! I love my KP very much. I do not need a big new K3 model...

Actually they should update their FF K-1/II first, which is really too outdated now. :-(
RiceHigh, the K-1 II is kind-of dead now. No sales any more, look at any Amazon.com DSLR sales ranking. And Ricoh won't sink further money into an already dead horse. I think that was it. And the K-3 III will be a desaster from day one. Pentax are currently Waterloo'ing.
Such an adapter would be really great stuff for remaining Pentaxians, opening the door to contemporary camera technology. But it is likely also establish "the ending" for Pentax business on new camera sales. But maybe, Pentax could survive via giving up camera development altogether, and becoming a speciality lens maker? lenses with some vintage rendering characteristics, that could be a viable niche.
