K-3 Flash Issues

1. Unacceptable prolonged shutter delay in P-TTL mode:

http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/172-pentax-k-3/242556-k-3-delay-when-using-flash.html

Some K-3 users reported that the delay was particularly long, noticeably much longer than that of the K-5, which was not that noticeable.

Another thread at the Taiwanese PFC Pentax forum also states the same thing:

(in Traditional Chinese)

A petition is being raised.

2. EXIF is not stored correctly for whether the flash is turned on or off:

Please Rice, tell us about your A7 light leak issue. Maybe Sony, by firmware update, could stuck exposures slowers than 15sec, at ISO 6400 and up.
My 2 cent for Sony´s users affection.

I'm impressed. That is a very intelligent response to an issue with the k-3. You are a very creative fan boy.
Is even worst the case of the Sony A7r, because Sony claim it´s weather sealed. If light enters, then water, humidity and dust could enter too.
2. Did you read that thread?
Thank you very much for publishing a link to a thread I created Rice!!!!!! I'm Black_Wizards on PF board!
This prove you can listen to other people when you want.... ;-)

So it proves that the Pentax user base is really so limited and the world is so small! ;-P
Having a K-3 in hand right now, I can agree there is very slight shutter action delay when using onboard flash. It is almost neglible, but it is here. I think it's a firmware issue, since the actuation in all modern cameras is electronic driven, not mechanic. There are few other minor flaws, but most of them will be probably adressed by firmware updates. Otherwise - superb camera. The best APS-C DSLR out there, better choice than basic fullframes like the 6D or D610 for an active outdoor photographer - image quality almost the same (slightly better in low ISO, worse in high), but more feature packed and compact...

At least partially. There are physical components in the electrical systems that have real physical properties that cannot be reprogrammed: for example, resistors and capacitors. It may be that some of these supplies didn't all have the same tolerances so Pentax opted for a more conservative delay to solve other problems. Dunno.

Thanks for keeping us upto date with this six month old post!

Yes, this old issue is yet unresolved and is persistent with the latest firmware as complained by some K-3 users - see the second post thread link.

Hi, here Massimo from Italy, i have this problem. Any news?

I am afraid not.
Seems to me, some enterprising engineer (RH?) could take a storage oscilloscope and photometer and actually measure the lag time between preflash-flash for the K-3 and earlier K-models. This would put the issue to rest, instead of relying on users' subjective measures of the lag time.

From the forum whose name won't be mentioned.
It appears the lag is from shutter release to pre-flash. Pre-flash to flash timing is consistent with other cameras (at least the K-30). Occurs with internal and external flash.
