Okay, after all these "negative" news, here is a better one: The originally much overpriced DA560 now has its price cut quite significantly: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3680108
Yes, all these news are read from the front page of the DPR Pentax forum, which I have not visited for long actually.

The lens has other problems. QC is the main problem.

There are too many overlapping focal lenghts. Not a single prime in the 24-28 range (the 24 would be the equivalent to the 35mm "street" lens of the film days, and the 28, the APS-C version of the "43 Limited").
Also, variable aperture zooms like the 18-135 or the 20-40, are just a LAZY aproach. Come on... everyone builds a 18-55 f3.5-5.6. Even Sony's kit lens has a metal mount and silent autofocus... My "SMC 28-105 f3.2-4.5 AL IF" is actually more compact than the various "18-55 DA/L/WR"!
So, I'm really hoping that the planned "DA Zoom ~18-85" really is at least constant f4, better still, a 2.8, why not? The DA*16-50 also need a replacement, anyway.
They should clear their inventory through massive discounts, and start building a cohesive and serious line-up . No more "limited Limiteds", no more plastic-mount-DA-L's. Just quality optics at decent prices (just look at Sigma). Ricoh would be selling many more lenses this way, IMHO.

18-70/2.8-4? Not bad, but I hope it's at least compact, somewhere between the 18-55 and the 18-135, size-wise. I really do not like the form factor of both 16-45 and 17-70 as they're too elongated and narrow. If they also discontinue the 17-70, it's good riddance. And also, big pointy zooms scare everyone whether it's kids in the backyard, friends at a dinner table or the security guards at any given public building...
