DxOMark of K-5IIs (Same Score as K-5 and K-5II)

The DxOMark of the K-5IIs has been out.

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Publications/DxOMark-Reviews/Pentax-K-5-IIs-maintains-the-excellence-of-its-sister-model-the-K-5-II/Measurement

A quick comparison of the K-5IIs against the K-5II against the K-5 is as follows:-

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors/Compare-cameras-side-by-side/%28appareil1%29/829|0/%28brand%29/Pentax/%28appareil2%29/830|0/%28brand2%29/Pentax/%28appareil3%29/676|0/%28brand3%29/Pentax

Now, we can see a major pitfall of the DxOMark here, that is, it actually never measured any actual resolution of any camera! What they took into account is only the pixel count of the cameras as specified. It is therefore whilst the marks of the cameras under test are all the same, in this case it is the K-5s', but in reality the Image Quality of them may be different! But then what is the meaning of this IQ benchmark then?! :-o

I think you are being a little tough on DxO here. If all they do is count pixels, explain how the K-5 can score higher than the 18MP Canon 60D and the 24MP Nikon D3200?

DxOMartk may not be a perfect sensor chooser but it is a good starting point. And there is more than the "score" at the top. The ISO and EV scores are just as important.

As I've already said, one major problem of the Mark is that they didn't *measure* resolution. If they did, I think the K-5IIs should score higher than the K-5, say for example.
For once, I agree with you.
The issue with DXOMark is that it's a synthetic benchmark. A synthetic benchmark will consistently measure a very limited number of metrics (which DXOMark does, for example K-5's impressive DR was confirmed in real life) but many important aspects will be completely ignored (e.g. resolution).
OTOH, trying to assign a single number / score to a camera's "performance" is a flawed approach, in itself.

And then they measure moiré and K5IIs sinks?

For an art photograph what DXO measures is much more important than the resolution you are talking about. Because printed on reasonable size, we will see no difference. This kind or sensor resolution is useful for few photographers who want to use crops and engineers more interested in technical features than art.
