They pic the k-01 over the k5 ? Maybe all those other cameras look so boring behind a glass case that they decided to spice things up a bit.

The K-5 was a 2010 camera, not 2012.
I just received my K-01 this week (B&H $316USD!).

The grip should've been deeper, but I guess it's no worse than my old Super Program or a Leica M, and I've probably been spoiled by the excellent grip of the K-m/K-x and K-7/K-5. I've ordered a leather handstrap which hopefully will improve the grip. The top button placement is a bit silly, again when compared to the perfect layout on K-m/K-x, but I'm adapting to it.

On the other hand, the design, fit and finish is top-notch. The bead-blasted and knurled aluminum parts are really industrial, but elegant as well.

The "live-view" implementation is a revelation, not only far better than any other Pentax sSLR, but better than most compacts that I have used. The AF is again far better than any other Pentax w/ live view and not really slow (at least with a DA15/4). It is noisy however...but that's the Pentax way (joke). Manual focus with old lenses is a joy, better than any optical viewfinder in this class, even without focus peaking.

My only really serious gripe is the omission of wireless flash, this is a great studio camera with it's direct view and large screen. Annoying to have to hook up cords or external wireless triggers.

But all in all, I think it's a deserving camera, it's certainly a bold and unique statement. I hope they see fit to introduce a K-01IIs !

Agree, but don't hope much for a K-01IIs, hence some statements. Silver one from UK is awesome! Didn't go for domestic (USA) colors, so it had to be double of yours (including 40mm XS, though)... K-01 can grow on a user, almost guaranteed..
If there is a K-02 with the EVF and an articulated screen, I think it will be a killer model, i.e., a K-mount mirrorless for WYSIWYG!

It's very good as it is with Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro & Dead Kitten Artificial Fur Wind Shield.

UHS-1 speed mem card support and K-mount old & new glass compatibility is great too. But if I'm not mistaken, Pentax management mentioned there is no plan for follow-up on this model.

Per some reports, the next FW update should address the GPS startracker function as well...
Just bought one today, body only, for a low price. I like its unconventional styling, and tests in the shop showed no problems with AF in normal indoor lighting. I like the fact that it is comparable in image quality to a K-5, and presumably similar 16MP cameras. The video function seems good. Will try to get some time with it soon.
Don't forget to update the firmware to 1.01 you get a high speed AF..I suppose if you don't complain about AF may already have 1.01 installed...
