MX-1 Now Made in Indonesia, An Unboxing and Quick ISO Test/Comparison

The box and package is in the same style and uses the same material as the WG series of digital cameras of Pentax.

MX-1, the first "Pentax" camera that ever made in Indonesia.

The lens is what we can find in Olympus XZ series of DCs, for exactly the same specification and outlook. Btw, I don't think it matches well enough with the elegant bronze metal body of the MX-1.

The flipped mon. is awesome, though, especially when it can be found in a *Pentax* camera! :-o

As for the ISO test, it can be seen that the noise shows up more obviously starting from ISO 800 and up, whilst image details and colours are still good up to ISO 1600. Colour noise starts to show more clearly from ISO 1600 and ISO 3200 is not that usable IMO after all.

"The lens is what we can find in Olympus XZ series of DCs, for exactly the same specification and outlook."

No it isn't ...

The lens is not the same as in Olympus ZX-2. This convergent evolution not inheritance. Both cameras use the same (sized) sensor and decided on the same focal length range (which is a round number 6 to 24mm for 4x zoom range starting at 28mm eq).

Olympus has 6 aspherical elements and in-lens IS. Pentax has 4 aspherical elements with in-body IS. The Olympus maximum aperture is larger at larger focal lengths.

You are incorrect. It's probably best that you post anonymously if you are going to refute facts using BS. The XZ-1 AND XZ-2 both use sensor-shift IS, just like the MX-1. I assume this is "Zvonimir" writing this or whatever your name is because this is copy-pasted the same wrong information from other sites.

The lenses are the same. You are getting bad information from unreliable sources. You need to stop reposting the same bad information EVERYWHERE on the internet.

I don't understand some Pentax shooters who have this napoleon-small-man-syndrome. Always trying to play things up to compensate for God-knows-what.
Someone quoted me, and said a lie. Info from the respective websites:

Olympus lens (iZuiko)
Structure: 11elements in 8groups
Aspheric: 6 sides

Pentax MX-1
Type/construction: smc PENTAX zoom lens, 11elements in 8groups
Aspheric: 4 aspherical elements

Similar, yes, but not same.
4 aspherical elements can be "6 sides", if there is a pair of double aspherical elements that are combined together.
I think MX-1 with a monochrome sensor would be very nice.

Wait ! what!?
gonna start knocking my neighbor's door to found out where the heck they kept the factory hiding
seriously.. i travel a lot and no sign of pentax factory here there or anywhere ... unless they really keep it under stealthy bunker
could it possibly mean they're assembling FF camera there too so nobody would notice?
ah well.. i better start looking before they start to sell it 150% normal price.. as usual

It's not Pentax factory. It could be OEM manufacturer's factory.
XZ-1 is made in China

XZ-2 is made in Indonesia.

One has to presume it is made alongside the MX-1 in an OEM factory.
Noise looks rough even @ 400 with obvious loss of saturation. Looks better than my fz35 did though, but nothing earth shattering. The q might even edge it out in high iso....

Yes, the noise performance seems to be a bit worse than the Q, but the amount of image details retained is yet not compared and unknown.
No new posts for a while...hope you are OK.

There is no new Blog post but I am still here in replying. Everything is okay, thanks.
There is not much real Pentax news that is worth reporting recently, frankly. I still have read those Pentax news every day but I did not decide to report any of those quite useless "news" like that PF "interviewed" Sigma at the CP+ but the Sigma spoke-lady just told that "we have new lenses in Pentax mount but also would not have many lenses in Pentax mount and all depend", for several minutes of time! >:-(
