Yes, you are right that Pentax' products are still staying at age earlier than 2007 and they are far lag behind!
oh my god ricoh is doomed !

The fact is Ricoh Pentax is dying than ever before. No one talks about Pentax these days - there are only very few people. Even when there are news, they are boring and not excited which are only promulgated very narrowly and slowly. Enough said.

Actually 645Z is splashing some nice waves.
Don't let the announcement of a boring consumer zoom puts your spirits down Rice. This camera above is just an OEM product Pentax did not spend a week worth of tweaking it. This Fotokina will be very, very good.
It will? I hear that the full frame is *still* not ready for photokina and all they have ready to show is a FF capable long zoom.
I would say that these line of cameras is being replaced in the last years by low-end dsrl cameras, let alone the mirroless market. Ricoh may have the numbers, the planning and the knowledge of the market.... but I sincerely don't understand the reason why this camera is produced now. I suspect that they ignore that these cameras are not sexy anymore.
It's the new retro camera everybody's been hoping for! Seriously, why doesn't this thing say Ricoh on it? Is Pentax Ricoh's new crappy budget brand now? I give up!
extremely unexpected move.
Sad.

Thanks for the heads-up Rice, it's nice to see Pentax using Back Side Ilumination, I recently bought a Nikon CoolPix L620 P&S with for $85 that fits the pocket of my safari shirts because it has a Back Side Illumination and takes the AA batteries that I use in the flashes for my K-5s. I also see the Sony DSC-RX10 with Back Side Illumination has a great lens (similar to the lens on the Pentax XG-1) but they don't fit in my pocket, I hope they both do better than my Nikon CoolPix L620 which has been discontinued within a year of it's release. More important than a multi-conglomerate's net profit is giving us what we want and that will include a new tech image sensor for DSLR cameras.
This a cheap, big store model. For people who don't need/want to change lenses and for whom anything better than cameraphone quality will do.
It's a little too late for the (north hemisphere) holiday season, but nevertheless maybe it's a good sign it's being announced before Photokina as we can hope there's more important gear to be revealed there.
Doomed, just doomed. Or is this a joke?

Photokina 2014 soon. Not much longer until we can hear "Don't give up. Wait till Photokina 2016. This year is about the 645. We'll get our FF soon!"
