Yet Another New Pentax Lens Patent (for APS-C Mirrorless)

A new 16-55mm F3.5-5.6:-

Source: http://egami.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2012-06-22 (in Japanese)

Note that the back focus of this lens is in 4.181mm this time. It seems that a new line of Pentax APS-C lenses is coming, which is possibly for the K-0x series of mirrorless. It is because for that short back focus distance, it is impossible to use these lenses for a traditional DSLR(eflex) that has a mirror.

By the way, as we see Pentax has not yet filed any new lens patent for any 135 Full Frame lens, Is our Pentax FF dream once again to be in vain? :-(

no no Rice, these patents are for Pentax branded lens' that fit the K mount adaptor for the Ricoh GRX, stop panicing the FF is coming. Regards Snappertim
Pentax has a back catalogue of enough 135 lenses, they won't need to design any more- just re-release them as DFAs!

I don't think they will just re-use the old designs. Didn't push Sony forward either - remember?

They need to establish a whole new LMTD-Line of lenses in order to compete with Canon / Nikon. The usual lens roadmap would be way too mainstream. And PENTAX isn't known for being mainstream.

DO NOT count on a FF anytime soon from PENTAX. I strongly disagree with everyone who said that there will be one displayed at Photokina.
there is K1 full frame display its a prototype. There will be full frame but it will take as long as to get out as the 645D did. There is no real world hurry to get full frame as ApsC is still king of money. This new k30 is producing some jaw dropping incredible images, so sharp, so vivid that full frame really is just a Novelty for now.
Even if they 'need' to release a whole new line of lenses, they can still be based on the old designs. There is nothing wrong with the ancient double gauss design. Canon has no problem using it for their L line primes. I don't expect any patent concerning upcoming FF DSLR lenses, simply because there is nothing left to patent.
I don't believe we have seen Patents for any of the new lenses on the roadmap either.
