This is clearly made to compete with mirrorless as well with entry level DSLR. The futuristic design may not be to everyone's tase but at least makes the customer stop and look at the product. Personally I kinda like it, but probably wont buy it,.. but I hope many would:-)

But the old kit lens is fail. Not that it is bad, but the design does't match the rest of the camera and screw-driven AF doesn't match the futuristic feel (and is noisier, which may sway some customers away...)

Exactly, the drawback is only the pentax kit lenses don't look nice. They need to redesign it, and improve the IQ also. Learn from Sony and Sigma.

I agree for the design but not for the noise, the screw motor is absolutly not noisy ... less noisy than the beeps of the AF lock or the mirror slap of the canon or nikon dslr.

Yes, probably many will. Especially, in the Japanese market. Here, in Europe, where I live, I rarely see a colorful DSLR.

The red Nikons D3X00 are quite popular here... And many mirrorless cameras sell in colour.

It looks better gray, and very good in white. I guess it's time to replace my k-x. Let's hope the k-S1 is closer to the 100d in weight than the K-01.

If that is your only Pentax right now I suggest you to not forget about either: K-50 / K-30 in close-out sale (and thank me later). That I mean IF usability is something you care about as much as to welcome significant improvements thereof :D.

Again, I do not say the K-S1 will be a bad camera - it will just not be any *substantial* upgrade for a former K-x / K-r / K-m / K-2000 user, IMHO. In my eyes, the K-S1 is "just" more of the same-old, same-old. As I mentioned before: with a slight twist in appearance.

There're pros and cons of course. I could veer into the K-50 after all the specs and prices are revealed. However, it will be a big plus for me if the K-S1 is much lighter than the K-50. Am also a sucker for anything brand new. We'll just have to wait and see.
