Wow, the ISO 12800 sample is actually less noisy and contains far more details than the ISO 1600 pictures of the old 6MP *ist Dx DSLRs! :-o

So, after all, whenever someone told me that the Pentax flaghip was a K-5 and that K-5 was truly a flagship, such sayings did really make me laugh! (but yet with sorrow! :-()

The Pentax flagship is the 645D, which can stand proud even with this Canon. Although aimed at different markets. The 1Ds is dead for a reason...

Well, it depends of what do you want the camera for. The 645D offers you the benefits of a bigger sensor, and I do not mean anything related to image quality, but to lenses application. You can use, for example, a 50mm lens at the same distance that you would use in a FF, but it would cover more area, wich is great to play with depth of field. But of course, the D800 is a DSLR beast, I'm still amazed they managed to reach that quality with a 36MP sensor, and indeed is a great "cheap" alternative to medium format cámeras, wich are insultingly expensive.

please note that not verybody needs noctovisor with usable 8736476534576532324 ISO.

Is really 1DX better than K-5? Well, everything depends on use case. I use my camera mainly during trips, hikes and climbs and I wouldn't replace my K-5 for 1DX. Why?
1. Because it is too heavy
2. Because it is too big.
3. Because lenses are too big
4. Because lenses are too heavy.
5. I do not need full frame, I need crop because of long telephoto reach
6. I am not able to afford it.

Everything depends on _target audience_. Pentax is not perfect, sometimes this company makes ridiculous moves (like Q or K-01), but writing that "whenever someone told me that the Pentax flaghip was a K-5 and that K-5 was truly a flagship, such sayings did really make me laugh" is just embarrassing (and does make someone else laugh).

what you feel, the way you're acting,

is called cognitive dissonnance. its a psychological behavior (cf Leon Festinger). its really an interesting point and you shouldtake a look on it. (indeed i wont be able to make a quit explanation in 2 lines)

but, the fact is,

that you seems to try to find points, to convince people around, and through this, convincing yourself,

that you made the right choice by switching in canon.

the fact is, maybe u did, made the right choice, condidering it only respond to one's needs, and tha person is only you.

But the way u talks about pentax since you switched, at first , pointing all time towards pentax product weakness, then , saying such things relatives to negative BUT wrong things, towards pentax product, (aka k5 ahrd to find, k-5 flagship is LOL, comparing different target levels products between them...
actually, a lot of your points are just saying "HEY, PENTAX IS CRAP, SO I SWITCHED TO CANON, YOU PENTAX USERS ARE WRONG, I'M CANON NOW? I'M RIGHT. YOU PENTAX ARE WRONG, PENTAX IS DUMB, I'M NOT SO I'M CANON."

the fact is that you can YELL and SCREAM that all day long,

you seems to be the only one who needs to believe it, but i would like to read a little more objectivity sometimes.

The 1 DX is almost ten times the price of the K-5. They are made for different markets. If you can afford a 1 DX, then it's a great camera. Personally, I'd rather stick to Pentax and spend my money on great lenses.

In comparing Canon to Pentax, it reminds me of a comparison that you had linked right here on your site.

Hi Michael,

It was a photo comparison between a 5D (with a good Canon lens) and a K100D (with a Sigma superzoom). The subject was a manhole cover with a leaf on it. Unfortunately, I can no longer find it on your website.

With the Pentax, I could almost taste the iron of the manhole cover, whereas the Canon speared it a bit. Also, with the concrete around the manhole. the Pentax made me feel the texture with my eyes, unlike the Canon where it was mush. I thank you, as that one image comparison brought me to Pentax, and I've not looked back. I am now very happy with my new K-30! :-)
