Ricoh GR-ize the "Pentax" MX-1

With this latest accessory for the MX-1 (made by 3rd party), the DC will become GR alike featuring an automated lens cover and lens shade two in one:-

(in Japanese)

The price of this add-on accessory is at 2,480 Japanese Yens (about US$25 as at today).

Nevertheless, it is almost ascertained that the MX-1 is an OEM product that made in Indonesia anyway. So, it is not a product with true Pentax nor Ricoh gene as neither has any production facility nor any factory over there. In fact, the MX-1 shares the same lens and optical design as the old Olympus XZ-1.

Outsourcing is common, nowadays. Pentax may not have any production facility there, but if they can assure that the quality of the products manufactured there is according to Pentax standard, it is a true Pentax product. And, from what I read on the net, it is as good a compact camera as can be had for its price range.

"sigh"
Funny....A lot of P&S cameras of Pentax and another brands are made in China at the factories of unknown companies.
The MX-1 is one of the best compacts I've ever had. It outperforms Nikon P7700 and a couple of others Ive had.
A true pleasure to use.
For this cap... well, I don't like it because the petals can be pushed and scratch the lens.

It is very thick, big and heavy.
The lens have not the same optic formula.

This is a myth with no supporting evidence.
Optical design is almost the same, but.... Focal length - aperture are not the same.
Olympus and Pentax - 11 elements in 8 groups, but Oly has 6 aspherical elements, Pentax - only 4.
Olympus has aperture f2.1 till 100 mm. Pentax has f2.1 at 50 mm and at 60 mm is f2.2.
Pentax 28mm 35mm 50mm 60mm 85mm 112mm
F1.8 F1.9 F2.1 F2.2 F2.3 F2.5

Thanks for clearing this up.

So it is not myth, Rice. You are wrong, once again.
The Oly has 6 aspherical surfaces, i.e., 3 elements.
And what is then?
Yes, they are different, but the difference is very subtle.
That's the purpose of evolution, and art; take something good and make it into something better. Pentax has that refined artistic sense for details. That's why even you like it ;-)

i keep strolling around to find out which factory built MX in my country.. no clues
if they can build a camera like this, why the heck we were told to send our camera to japan if we need repair and wait for 3 or 6 month to finish.. my friends in philipins malaysia and singapore xperience the same way too

Me too the same case for repairing. It is because if local servicing agent is unable to repair, they have to send it back to the central servicing centre at the Pentax Japanese headquarters. Btw, no factory repairs used items.

Btw, no factory repairs used items << Yes thats true in general, but seeing the culture from other OEM factory here, it could happen (unofficially though).i hope this may lead to better service. Our local servicing agent fastest record is 3 weeks for a minor repair (kr dial button error)..
