My 5D3 Vs K-5 Realworld Shootout

Test Conditions:-

5D3 with EF35/2, K-5 with DA21/3.2; Shoot at f/8 at nearly the same time (just note the positions of the moving objects like the clouds); ISO 100; Evaluative metering for both and exposure results are really close; Auto white balance; Colour profiles: 5D3: Standard 2, 0, 0, 0, K-5: Natural +1, 0, 0, +1, +1(FS) - both are my own preferred defaults chosen for the most accurate colour rendition/tone response and good but yet natural per-pixel sharpness after extensive testing.

I won't give my own comments about the image quality differences this time. It would be better for you to measurbate and decide! Do feel free to say what you've discovered in the comments section below. Don't be shy and you maybe the one who has found something unique but yet very true! :-D

I think the center is equal or k-5 little better, but the 5d has more sharp edge

Over all sharper image from the 5D3 but the K5 does put up a good fight. If these are as shot then the 5D3 also produces much better colour and saturation out the box. Image of the K5 looks a little washed out exposure off a little maybe.

Both cameras produce great images. The Canon is a bit sharper, and is a fine camera, as is the Pentax. However, the 5D Mk 3 is around 4 times the price, body only, to the best price of the K5 in OZ.
The law of diminishing returns certainly rules.

THIS JUST IN: The 5D3 is a better point and shoot camera than the K-5!
Show some RAW files and we'll talk, until then this is nothing but a P&S comparison.

You guys must be joking... the IQ from the 5Dm3 are miles ahead of the K5. For professional work, those miles count!

Jpeg engine of 5D is better than K5 one that is only thing that you can prove with this
And is well known that canon have better jpegs.

Compare Raws if You want to prove something, it would be sad that Mk3 lose from "old" K-5.

To be honest, for me measurbate jpg from camera are totaly unfair for both cameras.
I have my K-5 over year. And I still learning what can I get from single RAW file. Those scene are not relevant for testing in my opinion. I will show you what I mean.
This is very difficult scene. (shot with Sigma 10-20). unprocessed is stright converted by ACR7, processed is made in LR4.

So as you see looking in jpg's is simple mistake for me. Today sensor are so good you need very good software and knowledge to use all of it's pros. For me what is most important are cons. What is color clipping, How 5MK3 deal with RGB LED color lamps? how about blowing out pixels by monochrome light? how about purple firing? what is darkness and in lightness? How I can manipulate RAW. Those are real questions.

I'm alway amused when compairing cameras like this...As i mentioned some weeks before, it's comparinig like two cars....
one "middle cost" like Volkwagen to a high cost car...like ferrari or porsche...one should know that a porsche is faster, better,...........................
but is a vw such a bad "car designer or "maker""?...even if pentax has not a market share as canon has...for that price of ~900$ you'll get a solid camera...not good as the 5D3 "porsche" but not such a bad one a lot of people claim...I don't like such comparisons...Do not compare apples and oranges..........................

Yes I see difference, and even if price was no issue. I would still chose Pentax. I love this brand, and K-5 clearly stands strong next to this heavy weight 5D3.

A suggestion: print in big size then post(show) photos in a shopping mall and ask to people to choose the most beautiful.
