DA50/1.8 Proven to be a Full Frame Lens (as Expected)

Although Pentax did not admit that it is a FF lens, a new DA50 owner and Pentax user has tested it on film with a MZ-3:-

(in Chinese)

See the posted samples, I think no one will disagree that it is not a Full Frame lens. The IQ, sharpness, colour rendition and bokeh etc. can also be inspected.

Now, we have one more FF compatible lens in the current Pentax lens lineup, the full list is updated.

Not necessary. All standard and tele DA primes are FF lenses but yet there is no Pentax FF DSLR up till now.

The problem actually is, Pentax needs to re-build quite some FF zooms if there is really a Pentax FF body, as there is none in the current lineup.

•The Microsoft Camera Codec Pack provides support for the following device formats:

Pentax (PEF formats only): *ist D, *ist DL, *ist DS, K10D, K20D, K100D, K100D Super, K110D, K200D, K-5, K-7, K-r, K-x

I just installed it and it works with my PEF-Files from Pentax K-5 on Windows 7 64-bit

It also shows all the O-GPS1-Data (number of satellites, latitude, longitude, height above zero, direction,...)

ok lets see, full frame lens (ADMITTED TOO OR NOT) Currently on Japan/Europe Pentax web sites, :-

cheap plastic mount lens currently available
FAJ 18-35 FAJ 28 80 FAJ 75 300 DA 50 1.8 DA 35 2.4
Metal mount Zooms
FA 30-35 f4 FA 28-105 3.2-4.5
Metal Mount Primes
31mm 35mm f2 43mm 50mm f1.4 50mm Macro
77mm 100mm Macro 200mm 300mm
Not bad as a small range, Sigma might help with more badged as Pentax, Ricoh worked on the SA1 Camera with Sigma in the 1980's (Sigma SA1 was a Ricoh KR10 with a Sigma Zoom as standard)

I have many of those. All the FAs of mine were bought many years ago.
If the rumors are true, we will not see a Pentax Full Frame until early 2013. Why?
1. Sony's 'budget' full frame sensor will not be released until September. That sensor is supposedly under an exclusivity agreement where they only get to use it unless an OEM ponies up some money. Nikon is supposedly done that for the rumored D600, but no word Ricoh has.
2. K-5 replacement likely released then. Probably using the 24mp sensor now in the NEX7, releasing two pro-like models would mean cannibalizing of sales for one or the other, or worse, people waiting to see if the full frame is worth it and not buying the APSc model.
3. Pentax needs to re-engineer pro level lenses - The market is bare for pro level zooms, and there are no replacements for greats like the FA* 85. If you are not going to make lenses, why have your own lens mount?

I see the K-5 successor and a few pro lenses released this fall with maybe a mention that they are working on a pro level model. For those on the fence, a new camera now is probably an easier choice if they do not know when the FF will be released (and they may think they will use it as their second body). Implying, but not selling a FF will keep Pentax loyalists from jumping to the D600, which would be tempting, despite limitations on FPS and others.
I fully expect a reengineered 16-50 model that is FF compliant released this fall. This would send the clearest message that a FF is coming without releasing all the details.
Then, when the FF is released, I expect Pentax to say their whole lineup is FF compliant.
Actually, they are working on something larger than FF but smaller than 645.
