Looks great I use AF maybe 1/4 the time and about half my lenses are MF so I think this camera is for me. I need want and can afford a FF but can not buy a Pentax. No-win, No-win as in no one wins.......

Me too, I bought the silver K-3 because I can afford it as well as a $5,000 Pentax FF DSLR but if I have to switch brands I won't keep 2 sets of lenses no mater what reason Ricoh has.
P. S. That ad would be a lot better if you played freeze frame and went to a 4K clip as a collage shot by the same K-3 (with a FF sensor)!

Have you really bought the K-3? Already? Then Ricoh is very happy about it, even if you switch later.

Mr.Johnson, by the way, may I ask you as a one of the first happy owner of the new Pentax K-3?
The Pentax K-3 is supported by the new version of software - the Digital Camera Utility 5.0 (S-SW140).
Are there any noticeable differences or improvements in the version 5.0 compare to the previous version 4.40/41 ?

The shutter sound is louder than my K5...

Much larger (2.3 times larger) sensor requires much larger shutter. Add small body to that larger shutter, and it's going to sound loud.

Use cellphones if you can't stand shutter sound.

The Canon 6d is a full-frame sensor camera and has a mirror but it much quieter. So no excuses for the Sony Alpha

Shutter sound: fail. AF: fail. Charging extra for "downloadable" features that should come with a $3000 camera like an intervelometer? Mega fail!

Oh and I looked. None of the K-mount adapters trigger aperture, so shooting with a pentax lens would be very much like shooting M42 on a K-mount camera. Not that it would bother some people, but lenses without aperture rings are next to useless unless you get an adapter that has an aperture built in.

BTW, focusing on two objects within 6" of the same plane is not really a focusing test. Lets see how it goes from close to far and how fast.

People should understand that Sony has not released final firmware for the A7/R. The auto focus performance that is being critiqued here is from preproduction models.

My experience is that firmware updates have little impact on focusing speed. There is no reason to dream about a drastic improvement.

I agree, the K-01 is way slower. I know, I have one. It's fast if you use JPG but can only shoot continuously fast up to 5 frames. And when you switch to RAW, my God! It's only 1fps! The AF of K-01? It's fast enough IF your focal lengths are 70mm and wider (and not accurate when in high contrast situation), so most of the time I use manual focusing...
I both love and hate K-01... =)

I like it. And if you want a full frame camera that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and which can use most old 35mm mf lenses with an adapter (and no issues as with fd-eos) it's about the only thing going right now. I think it's also weather sealed which is nice.

But by the time there are a half-dozen or eight nex ff lenses available (and how many are going to be really good? the first one doesn't appear to impress + how much will the zeiss ones cost - probably a lot) I'm going to guess there will be a full frame eos m.
