A Ricoh K-3 Could Look Better! :-o

I must have been crazy! I found that the above PS picture looks better than the now "Pentax-in-front and Ricoh-behind" K-3! Is that Only Me? :-o

Not much differant than my K-5 or K-5IIS, but I bought those for the 14bit color depth. Evan though the Mega-Pixel-Race is over it seems some prefer an over-pixelated APS-C with large-coin thrown at the problems it creates, 24MP @ 8.5 fps ain't no side benefit (Nikon's 16MP @ 10 fps is easier & cheaper) if the K-5III will do 9 fps it's like (Canon's 18MP @ 12 fps) if Ricoh cheap-sides it (by back-pedaling to 12bit color depth) you get stepping. I think they'll abandon the 14bit capture found on Pro. DSLRs in favor of 12bit capture found on Amature DSLRs, once again throwing good R&D money after bad in an attempt to prove the APS-C has a better chance of winning the Mega-Pixel-Race than anything with a bigger Film-Plane.

Very interesting. This will be something to watch for. Will they release the number of bits in the color in the specs or do we need test images?

I find 12bit is kept secret very well while 14bit is bragged about, when I bought my K-5 and K-5IIS it was right in the specs from day 1, so it's no oversight when they leave out what color depth it has.

I like my k5iiS camera. The new one looks like they "gadgetized it", listened to the biggest yellers (tethering, WIFI, dual SD cards, etc..) on the forums, and succumbed to the pixel wars.

Remember the Homer Simpson designed car? This is the Homer Simpson designed camera, IMO.

The AF improvements are nice, but next time, please address the elephant in the room--full frame.

The K-3 needed tethering, WIFI, and dual SD cards. It also needed 20MP or more to be relevant. Also how should pentax put out a full frame? They have a small handful of FF lenses. It makes no sense to create a new system with no lenses in the pipeline.

Seriously? This looks like it could possibly be the best APS-C camera ever. Better than a D7100, which is saying something. If you hate pentax so much why are you reading and commenting here?

Good observation. This really is something to watch for. However, im curious as to how you can differentiate 12bits to 14 bits in the picture you take, Dan. Can you really notice it? Is 14 bits really truly better on most viewing size (and prints)? I cant see any difference between K-30 and the K-5 pics taken in the same condition. In fact the K-30 looks slightly sharper.

Ricehigh complains about every camera Pentax comes out with. He tears it down, complains about the design, the jpg engine, the layout of the controls etc. in the end he often buys one anyway and soon you see him praising the cameras virtues. Same old same pld.
