Two Bits & Pieces News

1. First, found this video at Mr. Blurrycameraphone's blog and the machine gun performance of the D3s is really amazing!

(Note: As the Chinese YouKu.com blocks direct linking from the Google Blogger, so you can see this embedded video only when you view with a RSS feed reader. If you read direct from my Blog, copy and open this URL in a new tab/window, or still click on, then click once at the link at the URL bar and then hit CR/return, then you should be able to see it: http://player.youku.com/player.php/sid/XMTQwMDU4MDgw/v.swf)

Wow! Full Frame in Nine Frames Per Second! Yes, 9 FPS in FF!!

WHEN will PENTAX have a gun machine like this? (with that high performance and level!) Indeed, the K-7 is nothing even close, the actual frame rate is just about half, even if you are to turn off the AF!

2. JenR has made a shootout between the Pentax DFA 100 and Tamron 90 Di Macro lenses:-

Well, despite that both lenses were set at "1:1" position and mount on the same Pentax DSLR body, the magnification can be seen to be somehow different. The Pentax has larger (possibly more accurate) magnification.

Other than that, you can compare the sharpness and the somehow different contrast/colour rendition (occasionally) of the two lenses. Whilst I like the actual larger magnification and smaller and compact lens size of the Pentax, I do like more the contrast and sharpness of the Tamron. As for colour rendition and taste, both lenses produce "cold" images, which I don't like! :-( (I believe the F or FA 100 Macro are warmer and tasted better! :-o)

I think no any sense in such camera as D3s for Pentax world. Too big and too expensive. Who buy it?
5 fps is enough.

So - you think that all Pentax users are very "delicate" and can't hold a camera that weighs more than a few ounces? And that all Pentax users cannot afford more than a few hundred dollars for a camera?

WRONG!
As for NX10 - NX's specs is MUCH better than EP-2 and GF1. Better EVF, AMOLED LCD 3", better speed - 7 fps, more MP, bigger sensor, better DR.
GF1 is rather noisy above ISO400. The size of NX10 is slightly more than GF1.

If you read only the specs, yes. But if you count the actual performance, I rarely trust most Samsung things!

Moreover, the NX10 to me, as a Pentaxian who owns so many K-mount glass, is indifferent from the GF and EP cameras, as it doesn't use or support the K-mount anyway. If I have to buy one of these mirrorless interchangeable lens system, I would invest into the m4/3, without any hesitation - the NX will probably come into a dead end eventually.
Samsung is the world leader in many electronic aspects.

Bear76 is right. Why would I want a big/heavy/expensive "COW" like D3s for pros??? Small, capable & great glass (THE trademark) Pentax IS plenty fine for most... Japan's "Leica" can do all one needs. Great pictures ARE up to us, not the tool itself...

The D3s is not that "big cow" as one imagined. If you have a K10D or K20D and add the vertical grip, the size and weight come close, despite that it is still a bit smaller and lighter.

But if you compare Full Frame to Full Frame, the 5D2 with grip is not much lighter and smaller than the D3s.

If compactness is our main concern for DSLR photography, we should eventually all change to use the m4/3 "DSLR quality" "interchangeable lens" system!
K10D and K20D are the history.
Pentax FF will be more compact than Nikon or Canon.
.. IF there is ONE!
And I shall surely buy one! (unless it is a POJ!)
I've seen this already. The NX10 is NOT compact!

Well, Ds3 vs K-x ... 962g vs 515g, 160 x 157 x 88 mm vs 122.5 x 91.5 x 67.5mm, 9fps vs 4.7fps, ISO 200-12,800+ vs ISO 200-12,800, FF vs APS-C, 30 to 1/8000 sec vs 30 to 1/6000 sec ..... AND $5,200.00 vs $599.00 (bodies only) I'll keep my K-x navy ... :o)

The K-x is nice, not bad for an APS-C camera, but the D3s surely is much stronger, and is in a different league.

You are absolutely right, in different league those two are indeed. I'm just thinking here of practicality of such purchases. They both will technically "age" fast in a few years thanks to the fast pace we live in.....

BTW, dpreview likes the K-x a lot! "Highly Recommended" from them should sound like a "candy" for Pentax. Hope they don't take a "nap" on their recent success and keep moving on with quality items!

Oh and both have 12.1 Million Effective Pixels, of course...
Ummmm....someone wrote above that Pentax lenses are so known for high quality that this is effectively a trademark.?

Sez who? Since when? Is this really what people think when they think "Pentax"?
