D-FA 645 25mm Lens Discontinued! :-o

http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/lens/index645_list_others.html

What a short life lens! Just wonder what Ricoh is planning to do and why discontinued this lens, which is actually the only ultra-wide lens in the 645 digital line!

It is weird.
Leaf shutter version coming out?
Just like the smc DA Limited lens which are discontinued, to make room for an HD version?

Maybe a larger full frame 645 sensor is on the way and a wide angle with limited cover is not needed, the move may shift 645z up so FF can come in at K mount.

The 645 line has no cropped lens, the D-FA 645 can be used with any 120 film 645 cameras of Pentax.
CP+ 2015 is soon, maybe they will announce a replacement for D-FA 645 25mm.
Cropped DA 25mm is still in production.
cropped DA 645 25mm is WR and better coating,
and also there is no Full Frame 645 DSLR any time soon,

so it makes sense to keep only the DA 645 25mm.

in addition, since FF 135 pentax DSLR is confirmed coming soon, then the Full Frame 645 will be waiting much further away.
Sorry, but DA 25mm is also gone, just check out B&H

I believe Ricoh/Pentax have scrapped this lens altogether, in favour of the newer 28-45mm... As to the reasons, who knows what Japanese old business men think! (Lived in Japan for 3 years and they're strange creatures)

It could be B&H mistake as well - they confused D FA and DA.
28-45mm is a better lens.
DFA 25 was changed by DA25 two years ago. What are you talking about?

Huh? What is a DA645 25mm? Where is it?? A new lens line???

The 28-45mm is a better lens
DA 25mm is the same lens with larger lens hood to shade the narrower FoV of 645D and Z. So, what,s so strange about that?

There is never a DA645 lens line, at least officially!
Well, at least I am a P645 user, both film and digital, I know what lens lines they have!
Due to unusually high aberrations in the D-FA 645 25mm (designed around full-frame 645), the lens was re-released as a DA 645 in North America with a longer lens hood for the digital 645d + z, but only North America! Everywhere else got the older film version lens...

Now it looks like all versions (confirmed with B&H), that the 25mm in all versions has been scrapped in favour of the 28-45.
A big loss for the Pentax 645z, but a big win for those who have the 25mm and sell secondhand.

... however the 28-45mm is a better lens. When comparing the two the 28-45mm wins by a pretty good margin.
That might be the case in sharpness and CA, but it's still only 22mm vs 19mm! And when you're shooting interiors or architecture, that 3mm means a great deal (wider = specific purpose lens)
When Pentax introduced the DA 645 25mm for the 645D, they also introduced the D-FA 645 25mm for the 645, 645N, and 645Nii here in the UK. The discontinued lens is the latter, i.e. the Medium Format film version.

Apparently there are no differences between the two, other than lens hood. The film 645 negative covers a larger area than the digital 645 sensor. I guess this means that plans for full frame medium format are non-existent then!

The lack of any mention of the DA 645 25mm on the Ricoh's Japan website is ominous, but it is still evident in their UK and EU sites.

Interesting discussion on comparisons between this and the 28-45, relative to which the 25mm is expensive, but if wide angle is important 25mm is quite different to 28mm. Users reviews on Pentax Forums are all very positive indeed.

I would love to have tried one on my 645N.
