We Pentaxians have been so starved for FF for so long that we have overlooked the sheer ridiculousness of the 3D plastic rollout of this nonexistent camera . That a near featureless black plastic brick should create such a hooplah is amazing to me. "Supercoolnothing". ( Wasn't that the title of an old 16 Volt CD?) That's exactly what we are all getting excited over. Supercoolnothing, with no specs, no concrete answers about cropping with DA lenses, number of megapixels, frame rate, shake reduction, absolutely nothing! It's like Kickstarter with no concrete data., just a chunk of hollow plastic. But I want it, I want it, I want it......
I went ahead and bought the Sony FE 70-200 f/4 G OSS last night. So I guess that's confirmation I'm sticking to the Sony FF mirrorless route. Not sure whether to sell my FA Limited's 31/43/77 to fund the forthcoming FE 35/1.4 or FE 28/2. Think a big ebay clear out is overdue.
Muhahahar! Oh so true. The last time Pentax presented a FF camera it was actualy a real prototype and not just a mockup - and was never build... :-o
Well, what do you expect? The King's new clothes, a 3D plastic printed supercoolnothing. Pentaxian Vapor.
When Pentax did not publish a lens roadmap, that was a problem.
Now they are announcing a new camera and seek user input, it's "vapor".
Some people are always unhappy. And, I guess, Pentax will be glad to let such people be customers of competing companies.

Roadmap is not firm nor specific. it says 2015 or later. It also says " Roadmap may vary in response to market situation". We know almost nothing specific about about FF camera. We don't even know how many megapixels it will have or the manufacturer of it's sensor. No firm specs except that it's FF. It's like a ghost... in hollow black plastic shell. I bet release date gets moved back!
Pretty funny :) I thought it was goofy when they took the wraps off of it and it was just a lump of plastic.
I am starting to get optimistic about it being a big seller or at least exceeding sales forecasts. Someone will slam that thought down quickly for sure and force me to come to my senses. Yet I think there still are a lot of ex Pentax users who have gone on to Nikon, Canon or Sony that will be enticed back by it.

there's enough current users that will buy it. It's a slam dunk.
But isn't it uncommon or a strange thing to present something in this early stage of development which isn't even a prototype? this is just a plastic design model - can't remember any manufacturer who announced a product in this way. is it signs of desperation? it looks like pentax wants to say: we don't have anything yet, but wants to proof they are working on something.
so it tells me they did not even build a prototype with prototype parts inside...do they have more than just an idea? i mean if they want to launch it end of 2015 there should already be more than this?!?

"..do they have more than just an idea? i mean if they want to launch it end of 2015 there should already be more than this?!? "

My thoughts exactly....
Signs of desperation? Does not look like it, and why should they be desperate, now they have a healthy and solid corporation behind them, one that even preserves the brand?

I interpret this way of early communication with a mockup differently: maybe they want to gauge the market potential to decide on production lots, also they seek user input (a good thing), and among the many possible reasons not to show "the real thing", the obvious is: the prototype is not yet in a presentable state.

I'm optimistic, and happy with that.

On a more positive note I have been told by a very reliable source that Pentax will release 6 new colors of their fake plastic FF camera by the end of the month.

Sometimes I wonder why the Canikon-Fanboys never stop picking on Pentaxians? Why not just take their wonderful Canon or Nikon and go shooting, and let other users enjoy their stuff.
I have never seen comparable levels of misanthropy coming from Pentaxians to other brands.

BTW, I am a happy Pentax user, not a "fan". Simply happy with the products I own. And yes, I do tend to buy at smaller stores and manufacturers in general. Nothing wrong with that. Helps competition.

Maybe the question was rhetorical but I’ll answer it anyway.
"Sometimes I wonder why the Canikon-Fanboys never stop picking on Pentaxians?"
Because it,s just too easy. Pentax and the Pentax Fanboys supply all the ammunition required.
You don't need to own a Canon or Nikon it really is all about Pentax and their execution in the photography market over the last couple of decades. Pentax Forum fanboys have been in a circle jerk assuring each other Pentax is the tits while the Pentax ship was sinking.
We can "easily" buy a Nikon I am or with Canon you can.
But we won't because it is not a Pentax. NiCanon is for followers based on marketing-shouting..... We can laugh a lot because we have the most exited FF by the end of the year and nice new FF tele lenses.
Ricoh has to increase the production-capacity very soon (for all that moving Canikon-guys which will be buying the real stuff also).
That is typical Pentax fanboy speech.
Isn't it that frustrated people always pick on others? Happy people don't act like this.
It's very common in car industry to present plastic prototypes without any mechanics installed...
Pentax will rule again, quite soon!

I don't believe Ricoh/Pentax is not further in development, I 'm not 100% sure but I can not imagine that they, based on the current prototype, are able to final development, testing & adjustments and producing & shipping end of this year.......They show an earlier prototype, may be because of competitive reasons. In my opinion fully comparable with the earlier 2014-Photokina "prototypes" 70-200 and 150-450. I saw with my own eyes, it was "nothing" and now within short term it is final...... Or it is no more than alternative and funny marketing..... Well done Ricoh/Pentax and welcome back!
