The new body would not have RTF, i.e., the built-in flash, as seen.

Thanks Rice for getting these sots up pronto! Camera looks fairly compact but fat in depth from the side. Cool...
Def Pro piece of art
Perfect! A very nice AOC 35 mm camera! Thanks a lot for the pictures!
At this level, a built-in flash is not needed/important. It's much better to have (let's hope) a 100%, 1x (or more) magnification viewfinder...
Looks great, definitely PRO. Finally! I would call it the K-F1 or just K-1...
Unlikely a pro level camera. Not a 1DX or D4S. I think likely an AA-filterless Sony 36mp with SAFOX XI (hopefully tweaked) and usual stuff that makes up the K-3/645Z.

Which is fine. Because it's good enough.
That big gap between the top of the lens and the mirror box looks ghastly.

Sorry, Mr. mirrorless, it looks awesome. Big huge viewfinder. That's what we want!
Indeed, I am not too fond of adapting my Pentax K FF lenses onto my A7r. The EVF is rather difficult to view under the bright sun outdoor and thus peaking is difficult to operate, resulting in inaccurate focusing at the end. Also, the framing is also difficult anyway under the bright sun, even with original FE auto lenses of Sony! :-(

imagine if Pentax does 95% magnification at 0x97 times! That would be different from the others, eh? They'd gain customers.
A cold light of day moment. Thinking aloud now.

If Sony sort out the A7r's horridness with the A7rII and a really good AF adapter comes available for Pentax K-mount to Sony E-mount. [sharp intake of breathe through teeth] . . . I dunno.

This Pentax FF thing looks big and heavy.

Just installed firmware update v1.10 on my A7r and it's definitely improved the thing. Sort that shutter out, sort the AF out like the A6000, add in IBIS, ergonomics sorted with the A7II . . . tough choices but I think Sony would win me over for good.

"This Pentax FF thing looks big and heavy. "

You said a mouthful. It looks like a big black brick. That may kill it for me. Another studio camera best left on a tripod I suspect.

Earth to Pentax: We love your retro-ways but mirrorless and miniaturization are the future!

adapter never as good. I don't want the A7R. I want a K-mount camera. The size isn't that big either. Probably smaller than D610.

Guess we'll have to wait (even longer) and see. If a really decent AF adapter came out for PK>E-mount and if the next generation A7rII is superb, well it would be a tough decision for me at least.

To convince me, this new Pentax needs to have World class AF above all else. I'm too slow with manual focus and often miss the eyes, so a tracking+face (eye) detect AF that's lightning fast is needed. IBIS is nice. Or SR. Metering on Pentax is pretty good now anyway. High ISO/low noise too. A much faster flash sync and improved P-TTL.

But above all, autofocus speed and accuracy.

PS: You are quite right not to want the A7r. It's okay but . . . SHAAAAAAA-DONK! goes the shutter and it's a generally lethargic experience. Not a shooters camera.
My own feeling is that the A7r is a computer but not a camera. The user experience of the new A7II is better, though.
Quite agree. It's no joy to be frank. It's okay, but it's far from being an all round capable camera.

However, it was a first attempt at something revolutionary. By the Mk3 it should be absolutely incredible and I think this should be taken into consideration when deciding which system to continue with.

I'm not sure at the moment because it's all supposition and vague rumour regarding both the Pentax FF and the next generation A7r.

So I just don't know.
