http://bcnranking.jp/news/1212/121228_24511.html
(in Japanese)

As for the mirrorless, the top 20 models equal to 91.1% share of the total market in 2012. The Pentax Q is ranked at No. 8 while the K-01 is just at No. 20. The total Pentax brand share is 7.1%.

As for the reflex, the top 20 models equal to 95.4% share of the total market in 2012. The K-30 is the best selling Pentax model, followed by the K-5, which are ranked at No. 13 and No. 14 respectively. The last big 20 Pentax DSLR model is the K-r, which is ranked at No. 19. The total Pentax brand share is only 4.5%.

It is somehow surprised that the Pentax Q has been the best selling Pentax interchangeable lens camera model in the Japanese market. And after all, Pentax is still alive and let's see what will happen in 2013! :-)

p.s. Btw, I am sure that I am contributing to the survival of Pentax as amongst those five top-selling models, I have yet purchased and own three of them! ;->

Actually, situation looks promising, as Pentax's share has increased in comparison to earlier numbers.
They are getting ahead it seems, quite nicely.
And some dismissed the Q as illogical :D.

I think we should give more credit to Pentax in their market analysis. Granted this is 'just' the Japanese market :)

I was one of those people who dismissed the Q as illogical or even nonsense!

However, when it is sold at 1/3rd of the original street price, everything has become logical and making sense again! :-D
It's really quite annoying that companies price new products way beyond what they are worth (perceived or not).

I think only Apple can get away with it :D
It might be just a tactic. For example, if the Q was not priced that dear, we would not have rushed to buy the Q when it is greatly discounted! :-D
or we could have all consider it since the beginning if it was at the price it is now !

Even more as the Canon M and Nikon 1 didn't exist at the time.
Maybe, but we never know!
Surely makes sense to TRY and sell it for a load of money first... and then drop the price if you have to?! I have one, and love it.
(Will love it more when they release a proper wide angle prime.)

Except it only works in the short term. People eventually catch on and then only the really, really die hard fans buy when a new product comes out. (Ok, you can count those who really, really must have the latest as soon as they come out :D).

Eventually a competitor releases a newer product, and sales are potentially lost, as consumers now have other options.

As I said, only Apple can get away with it :D
First sell it for the load of money. And then decrease the price if you have it.
