"New" AF360FGZ II Flash is Coming (And K-01 is Not Yet Dead!)

See the official Press Release here - what are displayed in the CES is also told.

Future Product Concept
  • AF 360 FGZ II: Scheduled for a 2013 launch this automatic, external, clip-on flash has a maximum guide number of 36 (at ISO 100) with bounce flash functionality adjustable both vertically and horizontally.

So, it is just a 360 flash with a swivel head now, most probably. What a special "future concept" it really is! :-o >:-(

Btw, the K-01 is also on display. So, possibly it has not yet been discontinued, and would not be in the near future.

You could look at it as a positive step - the lower end 360 will now get full swivel, which will likely usher upgrade changes to the 540.
Maybe they will even make a cheaper model with a tilt head (and wireless)

The K-01 is an award-winner, and with discounts, a volume seller. Why wouldn't Pentax tout it......

Also remember, this is an electronics show, one that is lackluster this year. Plus, what's the point of introducing more than one new model right after everyone spent their money during the holidays........and take away from the growing favorable press of the K-5IIs
Until they upgrade the foundation of the flash system, new strobes are not much use. P-TTL needs a serious upgrade. There is almost no reason why Pentax cant have a system comparable to Nikon CLS with complete control of strobes from the camera. If they wont do that, at least make the hot shoe fire above 1/180th. Im not talking about sync or PTTL above 180, just send the signal so those of us who use manual strobes can make them work.

I love Pentax but the one thing that might make me move to Nikon is CLS and the flexibility to fire a flash above 1/180

I'm TOTALY with You!
Me 2! PR should make a P-TTL II and hopefully it will NOT be Pathetic anymore!
I have never used a system in any manufacturers in any version of TTL that was any good. That being said..... P-TTL blows extra bad. And I use both my Metz 58AF2 and Pentax 540FGZ in Auto and Manual ( Like I do the Nikons I work with ), TTL days of film was great with the AF400t and AF280t ( 500FTZ didn't auto or any compensation ....lame but at least had a zoom head. but without the control of the LX flashes!)
I do hope they work it out the 360 FGZ2 ,as I recall upon seeing the the original 12 plus years ago, why does it not swivel ?How weird....and I waited several more years for a 540 which ended up with an excellent build quality and interface , much better than the Metz and it ended giving goofy results while the Metz gave good results! Hopefully after waiting for this "future concept" it will at least bring us into the present day and if we are lucky it may have the future mind!
Got my hands on K-01 (otherwise I own a K5). It's actually a great camera to use.
