More K-5 Vs K-5II Comparisons (Moon Shots and Outdoor LCD Views)

Well, the poster commented that the difference in sharpness is negligible in his opinion. Besides, I found that the colour rendition of the K-5 is better, once again! The K-5IIs shot is somehow greyish for the blue.

I like the colour rendition of the old K-5's LCD monitor better. It looks more faithful and detailed than the new air-gapless LCD. In particular, just view the heavy blue cast of the white sky of the air-gapless mon. and that the green colours do look odd and unnatural. But yet, the outdoor visibility in the field is not differed by that much against what is officially claimed!

After all, it is really not good to run bare, for both the sensor and the LCD! :-o ;-p

Once again, "better" because of higher saturation? Go for any P&S - you should be even more happy...:P Why didn't you check the artifacts on the left picture...
And judging LCD monitor color by looking at those pictures... Priceless...:P

Please explain the "coincidence" for why the K-5II's LCD displayed very different colours but at the same time the K-5's display colours are closely matched to the scene then. The same camera was used to take the picture? Nope? (You can still argue endlessly, for whatever I say, everytime and always!)

All I can tell for sure is no reflections (from this angle) on a newer version, exactly what was advertised. Everything else could be just different settings, WB etc. or even slightly different moment of shutter release. It could be a different color rendition as well of course, but I'm not gonna judge is just by looking at some random pictures.

Who is to say whether both cameras were set to the same picture colour mode?
The left one looks like it's been set to "Landscape" ;)

Perhaps the image was intended only to show the lower reflection...

I guess not. From the settings of both cameras as shown, I believe the tester meant to test them identically.

There is a problem, cause you constantly make hoaxes based only on your guessings and (mostly) false predictions. And it's not that everybody around that point at your lack of objectivity are automatically "fanboys".

The behavour of fanboys is well known and they are easily identified, by most people.

Actually, you need not to prove any body else is wrong, what you really need to do is to prove the things you claimed, but you never!

Sorry I have never seen a blue moon so I cannot say what colour is better. As to LCD display you can easly see that old has reflected light and is more difficult to read. If you so desperate to say that LCD colour renderiton is better/worse basing on this picture I only can say it is crazy.
Rice all your recent posts are "against" K5-IIs. It is your decision not to like it (or like). But you are biased so much that it is worth nothing.
If you have K-5 and you are happy with it don't buy another camera. You will have some more money - no pressure! Have a fun K-5 is still great!

Minimal differences, agreed. If Pentax had come out with the K-5 IIs first and the K-5 second, we'd probably still be having the same discussions and those itching to upgrade will upgrade.

I have seen the KII LCD in real life and compared to the original K5, the colors look unnatural. Overly saturated and too contrasty. Like the colors you see on those cheap TVs/monitors, they make demo-videos 'pop' but suck with real-life footage. I much preferred the K5 screen, rather have some reflection and good color representation. Probably colors can be adjusted but it is kind of a fail that a camera manufacturer can't get the default setting to look decent at least.

Thanks for sharing, jordy. Actually, the above comparison was meant to be side-by-side, thus I don't think the tester would mess up with the display's setting. Hence the colour cast of the K-5II display should be real.

Besides, I don't think the cast and unnatural colour rendition could be corrected, as possibly the layer of near-UV (blue colour spectrum) band filter that is normally placed above the primitive LCD is omitted and thus caused the problem.

It's not only "display's setting" that could be messed. Different picture style, different white balance, different contrast, different moment - everything could do the difference. BTW, there is no "cast" that "should be real" (learn the differences between *could* and *should*) - K-5II screen might look more contrasty (but with more highlight detail) and over saturated if we don't consider the above options, but there is no "blue cast" that you imply (at least on this picture).
And one more thing - it's just a JPG representation, so we need to check how actual JPG output looks like and see if it's similar. For RAW shooters it means nothing at all, cause they use a rear LCD just to check the overall composition, not the white balance, contrast or color.

Yes, it's all about "user error" again! "Only" YOU but not others knew how to operate a Pentax camera properly!

The lack of reflection is good, but I'm just way too worried that the screen gets damaged.

Saturation etc. might be adjusted in the menu or perhaps through a firmware update...
