12 Colour Versions of the Pentax K-s1

Via: Digital Versus and Les Numeriques

My special thanks to Blog readers sazon3 and Mistral75 for the links and alerts.

Now, I like the outlook of the camera more, at least not hating it, call me emotional if you like! ;-D And also, at least now there is not a Ricoh logo on the body which is really disgusting as it is seen on the back of the K-3, I have to say! >:-(

As for the size of this new K-s, I think it is comparable to the previous smallest Pentax DSLR body ever, the Pentax *ist DL2, which I also have. But it will not be heavier, I believe. Modern camera bodies should become lighter and lighter, when quality and weight are both sucked out by the manufacturers at the same time! ;-P

20 Millions of Pentax Cameras in 2013

See the posts here, here and here by Pentax PH.

So, for what is told, the 20 million-th Pentax camera has just been manufactured at Cebu's Pentax factory in Philippines this year, which has happened only after 32 years when their 10 million-th camera was made back to 1981. It is interesting to note that the first Pentax camera, the Ashaiflex I was first created and marketed back to 1952. So, Pentax was able to make and sell their first 10 millions of Pentax cameras in 29 years last time, and then for another 10 millions of cameras in another 32 years. But since cameras have become widely popular and they have been just domestic products in recent decades, the above figures have just proven and witnessed clearly about the decline of this once Giant in the camera industry and history.

For what I have just counted, I have bought 16 models of Pentax cameras these decades, for both film (5 models) and digital (11 models), SLR or not, since I first bought my Pentax SFX in 1988.

Nonetheless, as for that mentioning about the gold/brown coloured Q10 against the LX Gold Limited Edition, I think that yet once again hurts the weak sentiments of we long-time Pentaxians! :-( It is because the LX was just the last real professional grade camera body and system of Pentax whilst the Q10 is just a toy. Compare a Q10 with the LX is really rather inappropriate after all, IMHO! Btw, I have my gold/brown coloured K-r myself, which I think is still way better than a toyish Q10, isn't it?

Q 07 Mount Shield Lens User Samples

http://www.dchome.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1216412

So, the IQ of this lens really sucks. This can be treated as special effect, though, provided that it is liked.

Q7 Vs Q10 Sensor Size Compared (Animated Image)

With the leaked image from Digicame Info of the Q7 and the old Q10 image from Pentax Imaging, I have made this:-

How much "bigger" is the new sensor? Your take! :-)

Besides, after almost half a year, the Pentax Q-mount body cap lens will be marketed very soon! Well, they really needed another six months to make it come true since their last/first product announcement?! >:-o

Via Digicame Info.

This is actually what I built myself for my Pentax APS-C camera last year, for a true pinhole body cap lens without any glass (in contrast to this Q lens). Besides, the AF360FGZII still haven't seen any light to be marketed soon. So, where has it gone?!

What an efficient company that Pentax Ricoh has been!!

New Product Photos of the AF360FGZII Flash and the Q Body Cap Pinhole Lens

Via: http://www.pentax.jp/japan/news/announce/20130130.html
(in Japanese)

Note that the body cap pinhole lens is NOT a REAL Pinhole lens as there is glass/optics inside the hole! It is because owing to the really small-sized sensor of the Q, it is not possible to make a small enough hole to produce a sharp enough image but at the same time to observe the diffraction limit before everything is yet blurred much again! :-o

Last time I tried, I made a pinhole K-mount body cap lens myself, see the photos below:-

And it works, which will give you toy like images that a classical pinhole (film) camera could give! Life is easier with DSLR, though, as I did always set to ISO 1600 or above when used with my pinhole lens, on my K-x! >:-(

K-01 is a Piece of Furniture!? :-o

Via Ned Bunnell's Blog, Here and Here.

Oh, really? :-o I guess next Pentax can put the K-01 in an architectural exhibition or even a construction industry one, as the K-01 is now well known and recognised as a piece of BRICK! ;-p

Latest Family Photos of My Pentax Gear! ;-D

Group Photos:-

Individual:-

Now, you can see how many Pentax bodies and Pentax lenses that I actually have! ;-D

And, the mode dials of the cameras were actually put on by me myself! Well, if you want to do it like me, a punch and glue are required:-

Below are the new different packages of the latest Pentax gear! :-D The colour coding is: Grey for MX Black, White for MX Silver, Blue for K-7 Black, Purple for K-7 Silver, Pink for K-5 Black and finally Green for K-5 Silver~ The cameras came in kits, all K-7s came with primes and K-5s came with zooms and yet MXes came with primes again~~

Last but not least, do note that in the above group photo(s) that there are six bodies (i.e. two MX, two K-5 and two K-7 bodies) and six FA 43 limited lenses but only four DA 18-55 WR and then only two M 40 pancake lenses. Why I acquired them in this way? :-o Just because only FA lenses have the FULL backward and forward compatibility with ALL Pentax bodies ever made but the DA lenses will not work on old film bodies (so four is enough even for matching one body with one lens! ;->) and then the M lenses work on all Pentax DSLRs in a rather handicapped way, with the crippled K-mount. Thus, I do not buy more as they are NOT completely compatible, i.e., with old M or K series Pentax lenses on *any* Pentax DSLR, wide open and real-time metering are actually both NOT possible! >:-(

LiFePO4 AA Batteries - Part 2.75: Charge / Discharge & Recharge Test

I charged up my all four LiFePO4 batteries and put them into my Tayami QuickDrive R/C racing car with the four dummy batteries.

The fresh charged-up battery voltage for two LiFePO4s was 6.8V in total and both sets are measured to be about the same. The car was then driven in a full-sized football court in full speed for about 10 minutes. It seemed that the overall weight of the car with batteries was just too light but yet it had too much power such that I could feel that it slipped around more seriously especially for sharper/acuter turns where the control was lost momentarily. Unlike NiMHs, which heated up seriously for this high and continuous current drain application, the LiFePO4s only warmed up very slightly. The proves that this type of new rechargeable battery technology is really very suitable for high drain applications. It also explains why large-size electric cars also use it.

The batteries got exhausted after playing the car for more than ten minutes, which I think to be about half the time for what my 2450/2650 Energizer NiMH batteries could deliver (but the achieved maximum running speed is lower). And as I've mentioned above, the NiMHs always heated up very seriously whenever high current was drained continuously and for longer period.

The exhausted LiFePO4 voltage was then measured. It was found to be 5.2V for two (but only about 2.4 to 2.5V for each). At this low voltage, the batteries actually could not deliver any large enough current for the device to be workable.

After this full charge, I then recharged the LiFePO4 batteries with the charger, now it required for more then one and a half hour to fully charge them again. As before, the fresh charged voltage for two is 6.8V. And, this time the batteries are warmer then what I charged them for the first time for half-depleted/half-full batteries, but yet, the charging process is surely not as hot as that of the NiMH batteries with my expensive Maha charger.

So, the conclusion about the battery performance is once again that LiFePO4 is clearly superior to that NiMH old-tech and the total usable energy capacity is really not as low as it is specified, as all the battery juice has been almost used before the device cut off itself because of low voltage that is reached prematurely.

Okay, this is the end of my this purely text-based report. I blog, you decide!~ (If you still can~~)

The sales trends from August 29th to October 31st are plotted. The Y-axis is the BCN ranking (i.e., the lower the better) whilst the X-axis is the date. As for the legends, from left to right are: White coloured body Single-lens kit, Black Single-lens kit, White Dual-lens kit and Black Dual-lens kit.

Speaking of the Q, here is yet another latest Japanese review with various sample pictures made with the 03 Fisheye lens, full samples are provided for the last review link in the series:-

Hotax Has NOW Been Rictax! ;-D

The Hotax Days have been Over, it's the Rictax from NOW on! :-o

To celebrate the day, my Blog name has also been renamed, momentarily!

Do note the changed title above, now it is called "Riceh's Pentax Blog", for the moment! Well, doesn't it look alike?! Well, it is NOT a Typo, surely! ;-D Lol..

Finally, do you see all those Full Frame cameras of Pentax and Ricoh in the beside picture? How a bright future it will be! ;-> Btw, FF-9D could actually stand for Full Frame Nine Digital! What an accurate Prophecy about the future more than twenty years ago!! :-o

As for that 35mm Full Frame Hotax underwater camera, I have recently downgraded to a 1/2.3" one, one of the last Hoya-Pentax manufactured cameras btw, see the label below:-

Pentax' Toy Policy Will Continue After Ricoh's Take-Over in October!

(Source: http://58.64.149.135/discuz/thread-164720-1-1.html)

It can be seen that the above new toy eggs will be on sales in December 2011. So, it proves that the toy policy of Pentax will continue after Ricoh's upcoming takeover on 1st October, very soon! ;-D

The new toy miniature Pentax cameras and lenses now have no colour on them so that the users can paint on them (which I suggested to them two years ago) for any colours and combinations they like. Besides, the lenses are now interchangeable! Oh, well.. :-o

Btw, owing to the unsurpassed success of those Pentax toys, some people are (illegally) cloning those Pentax toys and actually improve them, see:-

I have drawn more than ten number of this back to July (but only got four different colours). This super bright white LED torch of the K-r is really more useful than that original Pentax one as it provides a practical function, but the Pentax' don't! ;-) What is the use of that "hot shoe accessory" of the K-x and K-r?

In addition, the workmanship of the clone seems to be better. And, the zoom ring of it can be rotated, too (whilst the original Pentax cannot).

P.S. If I have the time later on this week, I shall try to take a few photos of this super bright LED Pentax model (of different colours) to show you the beauty of this cloned toy!~

Congrats again, Pentax, for being successfully entered into the toy market and to be the market leader!! ;->

Or, after all, would Pentax just make real cameras in the same small size that really works? See:-

Toy Lens for micro-4/3 - Now It's Not Exclusive of Pentax!

See what the Phoblographer reports!

http://www.thephoblographer.com/2011/08/21/review-slr-magic-26mm-f1-4-toy-lens/

This 3rd party "Toy Lens" could be better than Pentax' because it has interchangeable rings in different colours and more importantly, it does have aperture control!

(URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_BUXzefB6s)

Of course, the image quality of such a toy lens sucks. But it's just the taste and effect we want to have with those toy lenses and we get the "desired" results without using any digital filter and without the need of post processing! That must be really nice!~ ;-D

My K-r Toy Story! ;-D

This is my new K-r collection, I have got 15 new units of different colours!

Full Album Here (Slide Show)

or Static Album Here

Actually, the K-r toy eggs arrived last week near the weekend at Hong Kong. Just within two days, almost all the toy-egg boxes of the K-r were emptied. How crazy it actually was for we local Pentaxians to draw the eggs! :-o

Btw, are these two K-rs looking alike? ;-)
