Pentax MX-1

The MX-1 is announced over the DPR, but the same news cannot yet be found at the Pentax Japanese homepage. It is not a DSLR, nor it is an ILDC. It is just a DC, or you may call it an advanced compact if you want.

For more details, please go read DPR's quick hands-on preview.

Btw, I don't like Pentax Ricoh to use the MX' name so causally just for a compact. I think at least they should create the new MX digital series, which should be lens interchangeable. Below is a picture of my "old" MX! ;-)

another fail
why fail oO

pentax was the only manufacturer who didnt proposed any expert compact,

indeed the specs are really close to the olympus Zx-2 which is not a bad tool!

by the way, the pentax seems really toooo close to the Oly , soudns like they are clones of each other.

The pentax got no flash hotchoe, i think that's a real mistake.

last, i like the design of that mx-1, with brass pieces :D
I agree that Pentax should be more careful with the MX name. Oh how I lusted after the MX with my K1000.

The design is nice but the specs are a bit suspect. Pentax forums don't sound happy and rightly so. Its no competition for my Fuji X10.
Zeď s dead baby, Zeď s dead

maybe all pentax product are not made only for your will/needs.?
did you ever considered that there is several consumers profiles? some dont give a shit to viewfinder nor hotshoe, specially regarding the product, wich is just a compact.?

just go fall asleep and think about it.

This maybe a matter of taste/preference or something else, but I question the insistence of some people to having viewfinder on small cameras. My office has a G12 that I use frequently, and the only times I use the viewfinder is when I was to trying it when I first use the camera. It is too small and too uncentered, so it is much easier to compose with the LCD. I thought my k-x viewfinder's is great, but after trying the k-5 and D7000, It seem so small and too dim. An EVF may be better but if it is still small It won't be usable. I don't really know about other compacts, but if the biggest VF we can have on a compact is no bigger than the G12, I rather the manufacturer spend the budgets on other things, like substantial pop up flash, fast image processing, two IR sensors, and gimicky but tasteful brass top and bottom plate.
It look's like a nice lcd back there ;)

Yes, it is a swivel mon that all Pentax ILCs and SLRs lack! :-(
And it demonstrates EXACTLY why I dont want an articulated screen on my DSLR. It adds significantly to the thickness for something I would almost never use.

Oh s***. I always thought the Q should have a little bigger sensor, I even said something to that effect. Now, all things considered, I have to put my money where my mouth was. This is the Q I want....... after the price drops. :-)

Good job, Pentax!
What a wonderful camera, and Pentax is clever to name their product. Simple and easy to remember; unlike many others which are complicated :))
I think after the Fuji X20, Ricoh GRD IV, and possibly the Olympus XZ-2, this may be the nicest compact on the market. Well done Pentax.
