Hmmmm when it first appeared I thought this must be a rugged beast...It turned out it came with no viewfinder and no weather sealing !!! I would have bought two at once for even higher price..... such a shame.However at these sell-out prices a no brainer

I am outraged. This was by far the best camera Pentax has ever produced by a long long long shot. I hereby demand that they immediately resume production of this instant classic. This is a travesty.

Two week ago I sold my Nikon D90 and its lenses for Pentax K-01. Well, the built and the image quality are really good. Very suitable for family and street photography. Now I am thinking to buy other lenses (in sequent priority) DA 35mm Macro limited, DA 10-17mm Fish-eye, and FA 50mm F1.4 Do you have better lenses recommendation, Rice ?

The DA21 would be nice. It makes an ideal all-round snapshot combo when mounted on the K-01.

yes with the rebate it only cost you US$ 250-300;
it cannot go wrong,
and with it ridiculous Big Size you can use to throw contest like people used to with Nokia CellPhones

I don't understand all the hate. Just last night a pro photographer asked to have a go of my K-01 and he was impressed.
It's a great machine and an awful lot of camera for the money. I love the finish and the solid metal build. I couldn't give a stuff what it looks like, and I applaud Pentax for their originality.

According to the list, the K-5 is not discontinued. In fact, the K-5 and K-5II are just too similar and Pentax is honest enough to tell the truth! ;-)

K-01 is agreat camera, just not a replacement for a DLSR. K0-1 is not as quick to shoot so it is hard to use for any kind of action shots. At ~ 300$ it's big bang for the buck. I woulkd not think as highly of it if I paid full retail. It's no replacement for the K-5 but a great addition.

Just bought a K-01 for $360 including that 40mm lens. Will use it for the occasional film clip (where K-5 is handicapped because it cannot autofocus while recording a movie).
