Agreed they can't be serious about that screen design....reeks "recall"
The "dune buggy suspension" lcd is incredible! I really like also the new third wheel with the selector!

missing video.

It's not missing video, it's the switch under the big dial on the right side of the prism.

And Rice: I knew you had to be negative first about the new camera. I feel sorry for you, pessimists don't live long unfortunately! Next time, try to be more polite and tell us some more positive things.

I really like the articulating screen (which might be the best one out there) and how it's full of goodies like GPS and Wifi.

Full of gadgets but the flash is missing. I often use this for remote control of other flashes..
I really don't understand how e.g. a gps gimmick can replace a flash.
No GPS = nothing lost
No flash = missed opportunities.

my 2cts.

The full frame Pentax is no longer a unicorn, but its a rhino! LOL!
Anyway, I like it a lot! One question in mind is how tough is the flippy-rotatable lcd screen is?
Ugly camera,it 's looking not good a flippy-rotatable lcd screen??
That LCD mount does look flimsy (especially the thin data ribbon connection in the center).
I for one love the built-in flash on my K5. Perfect for a bit of fill flash. I also love the idea of the GPS for astrophotography (and was hesitating on buying the external module). But I would prefer to have the flash on-board and the GPS as an external module. Bring the GPS module when I need it, but the flash I would always want to have it there.

Here's an idea Pentax.. make in modular. Interchangeable viewfinder like the LX... one with flash, one with GPS :-)

Oh yes this one is sooo sexy - I wish I would have one here to play with ;)

The 3 shoulder dials look strange, but I think they will boost the handlingquality a lot. With the should display I´m curious how it will look like, right now I dont juse mine of the K5 very often.
GPS and Wi-Fi is nice, the lcd screen kinda looks scary, as if it will come out of the cam and try to kill me but may be pretty usefull!

Crope mode is there, too. I just hope it will be very customizable with each lens!

Finally I hope the pricetag will be affordable, so I can really buy one and play with it!

Chris
A few thoughts:
1. Not liking the placement of the still/video switch. I think having it on the top slows down the ability to just flip it. I liked the switch on the back of the camera (loved the red button on the K-01).

2. I think the camera looks impressive, but I can see that maybe its not going to appeal to new users. Its better looking than the Nikon, but this camera is not going to lure a FujiFilm or Olympus buyer (then again, the price of this would probably stop them too)

3. Gosh there are a lot of switches!. I remember when some reviewers complained about the K10 having to dip into menus to make some adjustments (I loved the setup because I could adjust the focusing point). Will reviewers say there are too many now?

4. They overbuilt the tilting/swivel screen. That looks like it can go though a war, and support the camera itself, but also looks like it adds 10 pounds. Plus, all I want is to be able to tilt down and tilt up. The thing doesnt look flimsy though.

5. Enough under-glass peeks, I want specs! - Price, sensor, video capabilities, DA lens compatibility, camera availability - these are the only things I need to know now. I will be in the extreme minority, but the video capabilities are what interest me the most. I know its going to be a great still camera, above what my K3 is now, but I don't new. need an upgrade with stills at this moment (and that price). But if this thing does slow motion video, if it has improvements on image stabilization, improvements on handling audio while recording, has a 4K mode, then this is a big jump.

Fine. I'll be happy to buy one if the price is ok - and AF speed and tracking is anywhere near the FF Nikons.
Me too, I'd prefer an inbuilt flash for fill-in flash or to trigger external flashes over GPS.
GPS doesn't help you to shoot better photos while the inbuilt flash can - on some (aforementioned) occasions. Maybe in the next model, there'll be one...

If you use built in flash or on camera you should give up being a photographer.

Love the design! I hope it shines in low light capabilities :-)
Very strange LCD, I think I don't like that component.
But I should see the camera in reality.
However I will buy the new camera for shore.
On dpreview.com latest post, if you look really closely at the second shot upside down at 1:1 scale you can just see under part of the white sticker, which seemingly wasn't put on properly by the Pentax / Ricoh representative, a K and I'm almost sure the top bit of a 1, so pretty certain it is going to be called the K1

Looks good to me, apart from the screen tilt mechanism which is overkill, only need a fill up like the Sony A7.whatever. Not bothered about pop up flash, or GPS or WiFi or any other Sony'esque gimmickry. Just core performance . . .

1. Super fast and accurate AF;
2. Super fast and accurate AF in low light;
3. Super fast and accurate tracking AF;
4. Super fast and accurate AF over a wide area of the sensor;
(a pattern is emerging)
5. Superb high ISO performance;
6. Pentax traditional ergonomics and UI;
7. Pentax overall sensor performance extraction, colour accuracy and metering;
8. Improved SR, retain ultrasonic sensor cleaning also;
9. Not a stupidly high resolution sensor (24mp would do fine), retain fast shooting rates/ISO performance, yet use pixel shift for extremely high resolution if needed (most people think they need, but don't really as they rarely print huge and even the best monitors will only support 15mp resolution);
11. Flash sync, 1/320s;
12. 8-9 frames a second is good enough, way good enough;
13. Hopefully it won't be too heavy <1kg would be acceptable;
14. Get those new f/2.8 zoom prices down, for the love of . . . way too much money. Also get on with making a 14-24/2.8;
15. Update the 31, 43 and 77 Ltd's for digital, re-design the 100/2.8 macro to get rid of the purple fringing.

it looks expensive. I really wish they didn't do that with the LCD. That is going to add $500 to the price. I don't need that.

I really love the design of the camera... :) I think its amazing!!! Man !!!! SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BEAST!

A REALLY BEAUTIFUL BLACK DRAGON!

I always liked Pentax DSLRs for being not so -- "otherwordforkitten"-style --
than the others... Pentax Cameras just look and feel like camers should look and feel.
The other camara producers products remind me more of balloon modelling than of a camera... ridiculous....really...(except Olympus and Sony maybe)

And why do those people always catch the "big price bait"? What for? Just take a look at other branches ... How does your brain conclude that 4 "railed" metallic arms+a folding mechanism could cost 500???

When i first looked into the forums, i used to laugh about such comments.
But now since i know that there are so many guys that have been implanted this way of thinking i know why photography is so expensive and a company that is way bigger than some smartphone producer,
dares to demand about 7 times the production cost... :) for its products. That is the same for Nikon, Sony, Canon, Olympus, PENTAX...

Sure, they had to set up the infrastructure for building the first full frame but it wont stay the only one... C'mon use your brains compadres... just cant be.
felt in love with it like, immediately... :) I think its amazing!!! Man !!!! Very good industrial design that looks functional too! :D

BTW: It could also be K-2 or K-Z..
Five user modes are back, COOOL! I almost exclusively shoot in user modes which reflect settings which are continously adjusted and optimized to suit my taste.

And I love the second wheel that seems to quick-select menus.

Pentax is really world-class when it comes to ergonomics. Making extremely complex settings easy to reach.
Any guesses as to how much this thing will weigh? That new 70-200/2.8 (which is a wonderfully useful zoom range) weighs in at 1.8kilos. Looking like this could be a heavy rig.
