We already know Ricoh will use the Pentax brand - so the only question is: would they rename their own products, i.e. sell everything as "Pentax"?

Who said that?
Ricoh and Hoya said this in their press-releases.
Where exactly?
At least here: http://www.ricoh.com/release/2011/0701_1.html

Ricoh will begin to use the PENTAX brand name for some of its digital camera products, and HOYA will continue to use the PENTAX brand name for their endoscopes and other products

Also three was same text somewhere on Hoya
That's nice, if it is to be true!
Or, should/could we also think in the following way?

Ricoh will begin to use the PENTAX brand name for *some* of its digital camera products (but will also begin to use the Ricoh brand for some of the other digital camera products)..!
Surely.

I think they will use Pentax for DSLRs and 645D.

But for compacts and EVILs/MILCs they will use Ricoh name.
That's just the wishful thinking of we Pentaxians! :-)

Ricoh can actually put it in the other way around, i.e., to call all the upcoming DSLRs Ricoh and then the new EVIL/ILDCs Pentax! :-o
It doesn't make any sense.
Two companies share the same brand name is already the utmost nonsense thing on Earth that has never happened before! What else couldn't happen under this circumstance?
Ricoh brand copiers, and Pentax brand camera?
Huh? Are you sure? I thought several companies for example use the Leica brand. Wikipedia confirms me... there is Leica Camera AG, Leica Geosystems AG and Leica Microsystems AG. They all use pretty much the same logo, with small changes. AFAIK this sort of stuff happens all the time. Another example is Rolls Royce. There is Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, subsidiary of BMW. And then there is Rolls-Royce plc, a seperate company that makes aircraft engines etc.
Guys, focus on what's important.
I'm interested in the Pentax PRODUCTS, because I use them.
Not the name on them (as long as I can find them with Google), or the color, or whatever... I do not own a single colored or silver Pentax lens or camera, and I couldn't care less about scratches on lenses as long as they are not in the optical system.
Having said that, I am sure Ricoh would destroy part of the acquired
value if they do anything else than using the Pentax name to the max. in the camera business. I am positive that the Ricoh managers are smart.
C
Yes, they are - and they already said they'll keep the Pentax brand (much stronger than Ricoh, on this market). Ricoh, unlike Sony, usually does so - keeping an acquired brand instead of using it's own.
Why are we discussing this?
