One thing to note is that the exposure level and focusing accuracy varies with the 5D3. The K-5 is more stable and consistent there for both, in contrast. It seems that whilst the 5D3's AF is really very fast, its accuracy and consistency is in doubt.

5d3 af is extremely fast, accurate and consistent. Best af in a camera I have used and I have shot with many bodies.

It might be owing to single-point spot AF was used.
Maybe on k5 you need +0,3 - +0,7 exposure correction. Focus point is not same for both cameras and one thing i don't like about K5 its AA filter extremely visible on reds

The focus point is the same.
Constantly using at least +0,3
5D3 at 6400 you see pink noise in the right-bottom corner .... on k5 nothing
I think quality wise, the K-5 holds up quite well for a camera less then a third the price of the 5DIII. But it's the rest of the features that really show these camera's are far apart. Still, I'm a very happy K-5 owner. :-)

Have you got a 5D II to do same head to head shoot out ?
Do you still have original 5D to do same shoot out with K-5?

If so, please do these shootouts too?

5D III is priced well beyond my desire to get one.

I'm torn between D700 or D800 or 5D II.

My Top 3 choices this year are full frame and none are from Pentax.
Pentax, then Hoya and now Ricoh ignores full frame, 24x36 consumers.

Depend on what you shoot mostly, d700 laks resolution but HighISO is still amazing even today, 5D M 2 bad AF system, noise is worst than d700, d800 may suit you best but image is not so sharp as one thinks thats why there is D800E ;-), if you don't care about resolution and video mode d700 is you best choice for wide range of photography
To consider the body alone, I recommend D800 if money is not a concern or 5D2 for higher IQ or D700 for action.
Seems like the 5D MK3 has about 1 stop of noise performance over the k-5 when scaled to the same resolution. The k-5 tends to do worse on noise (according to a few users and also DPReview samples) when shooting straight jpegs out of the camera. Can you do a standard RAW conversion (maybe ACR) to see how they fair in RAW with the same resolution?

Shooting RAW tends to be tricky business for 5D mark 3 ,that is the main argument for Nikon fans now :-)
Take a look at this http://www.fredmiranda.com/5DIII-D800/index_contr...
So if Pentax ever release FF camera with Sony's 24Mpx FF sensor in RAW and low ISO's it could be on par or even better than Canon RAWs in high contrast scenes :-)
I think I shall not do the RAW test.
If you need raw comparisons, here they are: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxk5/20. You can select whatever iso, whatever camera, download samples.
Here is a fairer test - use the dpr review comparator with the K-5 IIs - and guess which one actually has less noise when compared to the Canon !
for a camera thats less than half the price of the canon 5d3 it holds up very well and pentax has great lenses. since the shake reduction is in the body all pentax lenses have shake reduction, the claim that shake reduction in the lens is better, maybe, but its not so much better as to make any difference and you do not have to pay the high prices for lenses with shake reduction.
