My New K-x Navy

Actually I have already finished testing the K-x (as loaned from Fred) and a full review is in progress. At the same time, I have ordered a "099" K-x (Silver Body + Brown Grip) from the Mapcamera at the Japanese Rakuten (which is to be then forwarded by the Tenso), as overall I really like the K-x (although it does / Pentax do still have its/their problems). However, since existing stock of the 099 at the Mapcamera has just run out and that they later on do not accept credit card payment against what I have been successfully selected and confirmed when I placed the order online (which resulted in two more weeks for waiting the new stock as well as more complicated payment procedures plus some cost increase), I simply chose to cancel that order when I have seen a "standard" Navy Blue K-x (#091) today in Hong Kong a few hours ago of which the stock is of new arrival, which is cheaper and also looks nice (the styles of the 099 and 091 are somehow different anyway) and I can yet enjoy the local (Hong Kong & China) warranty.

p.s. I have intentionally mismatched my two DAL lenses on the two bodies! ;-D

An Energizer NiMH rechargeable battery kit is also bundled (4 x 2450 mAh, retained 70% of charge after 6 months, with an "Auto" charger). It has the official Pentax and K-x label on the packing:-

Well, the next thing I will do is to test my own K-x and will complete my full K-x review duely. I may add in more comments and information as such.

I shall also write a more detailed article/guide for briefing how customised colour K-x can be ordered directly online from Japan locally and then forwarded to your home via International shipping and dispatch service! (Just in case you don't like "standard" items but just want to get one of the other 100 coloured K-x!)

Actually those K-m/K-x bodies have four different kinds of finishing. The black one as we know is matte with some "printed" texture. My Olive K-m is in super matte but without any texture, i.e., smooth but not glossy surface. Now the White/Red K-x are of smooth semi-glossy and semi-matte finishing and finally, the Navy (and some other glossy custom colours, I believe) is very shiny but with some coarse pattern/texture (but not like those "printed" on the black body, though).

So, Pentax/Hoya have created and made a lot of variations, actually, which is a good thing as long as there are choices!
I'm looking forward to the tutorial ( considering ordering custom color k-x ) and for the review.

Actually the navy K-x I have appears to be in somewhat sparkling "metallic blue" color. There is none of the usual texture as the black bodies have but it's nice indeed, at least I like it... :o) Fun camera for sure!!!

Michael, what colour is your K-x, btw? :-)

Navy [as mentioned :o) ], it's a deep blue color. The lens is a standard black, Pentax perhaps thinks Navy is dark enough to be bothered with an extra color trim for included kit lens... Will see what setting works best for you. I like the landscape setting. Enough color but it doesn't look like from a P&S.

Oh, so sorry that I've overlooked that, my "Navy" buddy ! :-)
RiceHigh, How is the Energizer battery working with the K-x? any problem such as inaccurate battery metering etc? how many shot (on average) can you take with a fully charged set? this is the first time I've seen those batteries. Thanks.

It works well, better than my Eneloops and AlwaysReady so far. Surprised? (as for the total number of shots, the set is still going strong after the first charge, so I can't tell yet :-))
Hi, I am Italian and I have purchased a Kx and the Energizer Ni-mh 2450 with loader. Unfortunately I must signal that, despite has made the upgrade to the firmware 1.01, with these batteries I don't succeed in doing more than 100 shots.
A question...if you had to choose between kx and k20, to the same price, which would it choose?

Frank, most rechargeable batteries need about 5 charge-discharge cycles to reach their full potential. Your batteries should improve as you go... (and K-x for walk around/fun/video, K20 for studio/landscape/weather resistant if needed)
My K-x runs quite normally with brand new bundled Energizer 2450mAh NiMHs on the first charge. The batteries are still alive after one week now. I have shot less than 100 for this set of batteries but I did use LV and recorded several movies and for several minutes each. The battery indicator did show yellow after heavy use, but just returned to green after they have enough "rest". :-)

The firmware used is 1.00! (I have not yet updated the firmware of my Navy K-x.)
nice little pentax army you have here. I just got the kx and coming from an ist DS i'm very happy with it.
you really need a better charger like the lacross smart charger too. I have the bc 700 and it charges all batteires individually. I also ready that NiMH batteries have to be used and recharged a dozen times before they reach their full capacity

The battery issue depends on batteries, SANYO ENELOOPs work fine with k-x you can easily shoot 600-700 shots and there is no stupid warnings, you can shoot 200-300 if the battery gauge is in the middle. In spite of large mAh in some batteries the SANYO voltage drop is much slower, this means actually more photos for pentax k-x
