645D Samples at Pentax Japanese Website

Well, it says that it is under construction, but particular clever Pentaxians did have discovered their existence and links!

There are eight downsized photos, in 1743 x 1306 pixels only, uploaded at the following links:-

http://www.camera-pentax.jp/645d/photo/0X.jpg, where X = 1 to 8

There is no EXIF data of any contained in the downsized photos, though.

I have linked directly to the original "large" pictures with my above thumbnails, just click on any of the thumbnails above will download the larger image, a new tab/window will be opened.

For the samples, I've found that the resolution and dynamic range are good, the 3d feel is superb! But however, I am totally not impressed with the colour response and skin tone(s) as shown, which is just not my cup of tea anyway! :-(

Nice catch, that is IF these are from 645D indeed. With no EXIF, it can be from LOMO 6x6 ... The colors do look off, RAW-JPG's conversion careless (look at the contrast on full body portrait under lady's left arm and some...).

But, it's still too early-too soon to make any conclusions and subjective color/processing can be endlessly adjusted anyway. Where is that Lotto booth again??.. :o)

If I win the Lottery and want to try out the digital MF, I shall buy the Phase One.

For that price of the 645D, I think Nikon's D3X 135 Full Frame plus a luxury standard lens is already very good!

Interesting preference, I hear you. Even though the P645D has higher count of pixels (better for large print) 40MP vs 31.6MP from the same sized 44x33, P645D is faster 1.1fps vs 1.25s a frame, P645D is smaller AND 1/2 price... But with fat Lotto win, you can buy a rusty Titanic on the ocean's floor if you wish! :o)))
What time of year do the cherry blossoms come out?

From early March to mid-April in Japan.
so they're from last year?
This year, the 645D is announced in mid-March!
So the photos were taken in the week before before they were found on the website. Sorry, ricehigh, these photos are old.
In Japan the price of 645D is just $600 higher than D3X.

The difference gets a little bigger if you have a card from Yodobashi (you need to be resident in Japan), you get 10% bonus points on the 645D and 14% on the D3x. So you end up with the following prices with current exchange rates:

645D: USD 8422
D3x: USD 7896

So, if you compare in the same shop in the market where you actually can order the 645D, AND you're able to use the yodobashi card, the difference is still less than 600 $.

But...It's not correct comparision. Different niches. And 40 MP (even 44*33 mm) is always sharper and has better IQ than FF 24.5 MP.

You don't need to have a residential Japanese address to get a new point card, just get a application form from the shop and ask the sales staff to help you to complete it and you will get the new point card issued immediately.

Do note that using point cards to purchase in the Japanese big camera shops are not getting discount in real money. You need to use the 10% earned points (or 8% if you use credit card, 10% is for paying cash only) to purchase other goods and items at the same shop. In contrast, if you use credit card to purchase, actually you can get one-off 5% discount any time and you need not to find any other additional goods to purchase.
But, anyway, the difference is not high.:)
I am in Japan, and Yodobashi always sells good prices comparing another shop such as sofmap (http://www.sofmap.com/topics/exec/_/id=4390/-/sid...
But if you want to find the cheapest 645D among the shops, you may as well consider this website :

There are usually sample image from the shops. You can find sample pictures of 645D in this link : http://kakaku.com/item/K0000095422/picture/
As for skin tones of woman - 3 different version of PP or 3 version of JPEG adjustments or WB set:) And nothing else. Nothing to say.
Those are not cherry blossoms, they are plum blossoms. They open a few weeks earlier than the cherry blossom.
the Phase One pictures are superb! Very tridimensional!
BTW, can someone explain to me why DSLRs photos look generally very "flat" when compared to film or slide photos, even if taken with a very normal Pentax Super-A?

Noou, make sure you use in your digital Pentax only Sharpness what sharpens textures and looks more like a film, NOT the fine sharpness what sharpens only edges as NiCan does it.
In general, the larger the sensor, the more three dimensional the images captured will be. The contributing factors could be the DoF difference, and more so on the details of grey description. In addition, resolution is also a factor for better 3d perception - a "sharper" image with much higher resolution will give a better three dimensional and real-life feel.
I see... very interesting, thank you!
It seems to me that this is not a largely debated topic among DSLR photographers... Am I the only one complaining about it? In general, when comparing photos even coming from very expensive DSLRs (not FF) with film/slide pictures, the first ones look so flat... especially when printed (professional print, press). I noticed this in both macros and landscapes. On the other hand, on computer screens the difference is generally less marked.
To your knowledge, are there extensive discussions around about this DSLR flaw?
