RiceHigh's Subjective Ratings on Pentax AF Lenses on Pentax DSLRs 2010

Enjoy! Take mine as plenty grains of salt as everything are totally subjective according to my own practical experiences and impressions! YMMV!

Well, the Quality Variations that may exist could surprise you, especially for Pentax lenses that were produced after 2003! On the other hand, putting aside such annoying quality issues, I do find that Pentax have been improving their lens design silently over time, even for the "same" lens model (but for times and so many times they just couldn't control properly the quality! E.g., just look at the DAL lenses' case, and maybe also the DA 16-45 copies that I had and have as well!).

As a final remark, I haven't rated "Focusing Accuracy" in my summary as I found that focusing accuracy depends much more on the body than on lenses, generally speaking (although particular Pentax lens models are still more vulnerable to focusing errors, e.g., the FA 31 Limited). So, I'd just better leave this out in my table.

Update (3-9): More fields are added for performance aspects and lens production information are also added.

The link is a bit slow but it can be opened. Please try again.
No, it does not work, I get a "503 Service Unavailable / Unable to connect to 82.197.131.109" message. And this is for Germany. And we do not (yet) have internet censorship :-)
I have checked the IP address you have typed. The error is from the server of your ISP, please check with them for what's going wrong. For what I have just checked, the Atspace link above is yet reachable and okay, though it is a bit slow. Maybe your ISP's server's set timeout period is so short such that it will not wait longer!
hi rice,
i was finally able to read the table, many thanks for the work you have put nto this. however, it surprises me hat you apparently do not own most of the da lmiteds, especially the 21, 35 macro, 40, 70 seem to be missing. that surprises me as i think these lenses are really very useful and of high quality - i could not imagine using my pentax k-5 without them anymore, as well as the "limited-like" 100 macro wr.

i do own two of the three fa limiteds as well but like the smaller and lighter da's very much. since i own them, i hardly use zooms anymore. on the 3d feeling, well yes, the fa's have a little more of that, but only wide-open - stopped down the 3d is just the same, and the other advantages of the da's like smaller size, less purple fringing (77 vs 70) and better bokeh (43 vs 40, judging from photozone's pictures) weigh heavy in my opinion.

i would appreciate your view on this.

best,
chris
would like to add to my "fa vs da limited" list, macro capability (31 vs 35). overall, while i do use and love my two fa limiteds (31 and 77), the da limited have proved very useful and high quality.

and if it is just for the" full frame capabilty", according to my information the 40 and 70, as well as the 100 macro wr do have a full image circle.
I had not much faith in DA lenses as I believe that the future of Pentax will still be DFA, i.e., full frame, but not APS-C DA.

Actually, all DA primes I have invested still cover full frame. I shall see if I will have the time to update this subjective rating table to include them later.
