K-5 Default NR (Auto) Destroys All Red Details! +_+

See this post (Traditional Chinese, Google Translation in English Here) and it is clear and self-explanatory, together with some good illustrations, too. An example:-

(K-5, NR Auto, ISO 1600 - All Details are Washed Out!)

This is so sad! Hope you'll have a good night over it.
I think it's time you change brand. Leica seems a good camera brand for you.

Is this something that is unique to the K-5? I find most cameras at that level of ISO w/ NR on tends to blur on the details (nothing to do with red, BTW). Just turn NR off and do it properly during post...

A disaster! Finally a proof that in-camera processing at high ISO is sub-optimal and destroys details! Clearly a useless camera and another Pentax inferior to it's predecessor. I am sure the next Pentax SLR will only be takikng pictures comparable to the average cell phone camera at best!

I wonder how many potential customers you've driven away from Pentax with your constant, wildly exaggerated Pentax bashing over the years RiceHigh. People who don't know about your longtime obsession putting Pentax in a bad light. Most people unhappy with a brand would've changed systems long ago but you like being a 'victim' of Pentax and do your very best to hurt them.

you're begging for attention and Pentax finally getting some good press with the K-5 is your best chance to get noticed. Keep costing Pentax customers RiceHigh, maybe one day you will get your wish and be the only one left.

Lame.
Who cares about JPEGs and "auto" NR beside of you Rice? And you're trying to pretend you're a photographer? "Experienced" photographer maybe?...LOL

Stupid question(you might relate)
Why would anyone apply NR to an ISO1600 image that has virtually no noise whatsoever?
Cause you know... some people might actually come to question such a move...
It is better to compare images without any noise reduction applied. In this case the difference is not so dramatic. Below are links to the images at ISO 1600 without noise reduction:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/K5/FULLRES/... http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D7000/FULLR...

The noise reduction applied in camera is not the best way to deal with noise. It is better to remove noise in post processing.
There are examples of "in camera" vs "post processing" noise reduction available on the same website (Pentax K5, ISO 1600, no noise reduction applied) :
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/K5/FULLRES/...
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/K5/FULLRES/...

When comparing the images above, locate the same red fabric shown at the beginning of this thread. The amount of details retained in the images is pretty good.

This is a very tendentious headline and article.

pour Rice, all sensors of Bayer type have 1/4 of red pixels only, it is quite typical that some raw processors with NR fail in those textures. If you want to shoot something monochromatic, like red rose, never use JPG out of the camera. Sony sensor is actually very good in pure red and blue. Mostly those two colors do not affect IQ, because pure colors rarely exists. Faces are red-green. The test sample at IR is very carefully chosen and it proves really that with some settings the camera's noise reduction fails. I have most of the best noise reduction tools in my hand and I must say, they also fail in some situation.

It just proves, you are not professional enough to judge things like that. Imagine this type of NR can be positive in some images.
Your anger betrays you....

Seriously, I think this is your dumbest outrage in awhile. Noise reduction sucks for every camera, and real photographers don't use it. Did you even look at the image without any noise reduction? The detail is there, and that image looks so great.

Hey, maybe you should only use noise reduction when there is actually a lot of noise......

I think it goes to show how much of a hack you are that you didn't reference the actual website that did the testing at all, just some cruddy chinese forum where one loudmouth spouts off....and at least he referenced the dang test site.

For reference, here it is - http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/K5/K5A7.HTM

And you gotta love his tagline on his post - "Virtues of filial piety as the first, my heart would wish to trace, non-poor family would like to trace filial child prostitution led evil, whether on the track thinking, There are no worthy of thinking."
You are just trying to find anything negative even when in a normal photographers workflow these issues would not popup.
As is discussed above me.
Some balance please. Just google 'problems with Canon 60D or Nikon D7000.' Maybe RH should try it.
Results: problems for every camera.
Then try it for tvs, cars, airlines.
Go play with your K-r.
Rice, you are like child, why don´t you buy a P&S and leave Pentax alone?
Well, this is not just Pentax, a pro I know only went digital after he found out a good way to deal with reds in PP. He had "red probs" with canon digital. Amazing how many brides choose red for a wedding dress.
I have a red lawnmower (still awaiting the K-5 for the one true test) and under certain exposures the red color does pose a problem (also with K-x and K-7 and yes, also Nikons and Canon (I have tried)). Easily solved in Lightroom by slightly desaturating the reds. All detail lost will appear like magic.
Uh, the problem with the red rendering seems to be minor compared to the AF problem that is rearing its ugly head over on DPR. Some long-time Pentax defenders - e.g. RPulley - are either considering sending their cameras back. One poor soul replaced his original K%, but soon found out the replacement is a dud, too!

David you should learn to reply to the post you are commenting on. If I hadn't read the replies to the previous post I would not have a clue what you were talking about!
