As Technologies Advance..: A65 Vs A900 ISO/IQ Shootout

http://blog.pchome.net/article/458428.html

(Simplified Chinese, Google-translated English Page Here)

Full image crops from ISO 100 to 6400 is compared. ISO 12800 and 16000 crops of the A65 images are also posted. Do note that to view the large test crops in 1920 pixels in width, you have to drag the small/thumbnail image to a new Tab and the large image will be downloaded and displayed, that's where you can (start to) measurbate! ;-)

It can be further noted that the DT11-18/4.5-5.6 lens was used on the A65 for the test, whilst the ZA24-70/2.8 was used on the FF A900. So, I believe the advantage was given to the A900 as long as the optics used are concerned.

I am really surprised that how much advancement is made for a 3 years' time. Honestly speaking, the A65 wins in colour reproduction (which is more solid and saturated), contrast level, noise control and image details. The FF A900 has just been beaten down in every aspect for the IQ! At the end of the day, if the NEX-7 is compared, I think the difference in IQ should be even larger as there is just no translucent mirror there in the image formation path!

But however, the big question is: If the same new and latest technologies are used on Full Frame and someone is to make a new camera using all these, what will happen and what are the new results? :-o :-D (But WHO will do it NEXT?!)

The reality is that every camera brands are investing in smaller systems because in the last 2 years, the market has already voted for smaller camera vs buly lens on FF. Canon and Nikon now lost the entry grade DSLR market (and possibly most of the APS-C market). This will hurt their sales in the top models as few will grade to FF. Can Canon or Nikon survive with just FF system? I think not, base on your comparison between A65 vs A900.

When Tamron and Sigma starts to produce lens for the NEX, M4/3 or even the NX, that will end Canon/Nikon's domination in the camera industry.

..which is generally a good thing. We, as consumers, benefit from more competition. I hope that the K-mount won't die too quickly, however, since I am heavily invested here...
CaNikon must try harder now we all hope this is good thing, even FF is in threatened by 645D systems, probably Pentax has sold over 10000 units already and this is huge number in Pro grade camera market. Entry level DSLR does not make any sense any more, entry level optical viewfinder is even worse for most of everyday users, because it is too dim and does not allow to compose easily. Sony-s OLED will be killer app here as well - 100% of entry level camera users are using video as well, for this CaNikon does not suit very well - no AF, definitely requirement for home video makers, no video viewfinder, system can not be used outdoors, system is very large and so on ....

All in all mirrorless or SLT cameras are better for everyday usage.

FF is only at its infancy and really after looking at some FF photos and some Aps C photos I can not tell them apart on screen. I'm sure printing would be a totally different matter but I don't need to make any bilboards soon.

Medium format actually makes a lot more sense for those who really use and need it like studio work for fashion or and nature, travel, landscape photography where a lot of detail is really necessary.

After all, this is all business and they need sell more camera and when those are sold they will invent a new format and sell more camears and so on and so on.
I really don't understand the mirrorless/SLT hype at all. Can somebody enlighten me and explain how an electronic viewfinder can be satisfactory for "serious" amateur shooting?

its lazy photography...its for the mass majority who use a camera to take pictures and not to do photography. When you get into photography as a hobby, career, art, then its a totally different came than when you are taking family vacation photos.
Still using a view finder does make it easier to get different angles as I have done with the live view on my kx.
though I would love to have the Pentax Q for street photography.
