DA50/1.8 Full Samples (on K-5)

(in Polish)

They look rather soft and lack of contrast throughout the frame, which is even not much improved when stopped down. I am almost sure that my K-5 with an old budget A50 could do better, but I don't know why these samples suck nonetheless!

They use the lowest possible sharpness setting and noise reduction turned off if possible, so their straight from the camera samples always look soft. That lens doesn't look good anyway, even for a cheap plastic 50mm, but it could be just a bad copy as well.

Agreed. This is a poor showing. My m50 f1.4 is sharper and the a50 1.7 this is based off of is even sharper yet. I have a copy of that too. Its actually one of my sharpest lenses.
they lower the sharpening, they put the contrast and saturation to normal. I think this is what the Pentax body called "neutral" color setting.

Why are they always do their test in JPEG and not in RAW, they never set the settings properly for the test.
Use the K-01 with focus peaking in RAW and their you go, you are sure to have the focus at the place you want also !
They ALWAYS do their TESTS on neutral, unsharpned RAW (dcraw processed). The problem is their SAMPLE PHOTOS are always in camera JPGs, on lowest sharpening and with no noise reduction - that's what they feel is the most "neutral" output they can get straight from the body. They say, readers can always post process those pictures to their liking. Sadly they don't share any RAW files, despite many asked them to.
Thank you for the info.
Opaczne.pl allways finds something, cuz its not a canon.
