K-5 is Officially Discontinued, Finally!

http://www.pentax.jp/japan/products/others.html
(in Japanese)

The above is the official list of all the discontinued Pentax camera models at the Japanese Pentax homepage. The K-01 and Q aren't been there yet but this does not necessary mean that so they are still in production. And, in the list we can see the VS20, which is a product that has never really appeared in the streets before it is discontinued. Really sad and what a pity! :-(

It is, actually, not discontinued. It is continued in the form of K5 II and K5 IIs. The sad thing about it all is that they did not bother providing manual control for the video shooting. How come!!! And sure I lose any hope to get it via the firmware update for my K5. Sad.

Pentax wanted you and any other users to get the K-01 or even the Q if they really needed manual control for video!

I would never buy that ugly piece of a brick.

That "brick" is very useful for video with any M42 or K mount glass one may want to experiment with...Old manual or newest DA. The Silver one is a beauty, in my hands.. :o)
In the matter of using older lenses, all Pentaxes are on the same ground. I use a Russian made Helios lens for video with my K5 with great success. The only thing I have to struggle with is always having to preset the exposure and sensitivity and locking them. This is especially problematic in situations when I need to get a darker footage, as the camera in Av allways tries to get the "correct" exposure, which could be unsuitable for me in a given case.
That "ugly piece of brick" can sit in a bucket of water for 2 hours with a Pentax WR lens as tested by Pentax technicians & keep taking pics.
try this with any poser brand name camera

That "ugly brick" refers to the K-01.
Goodbye to bad autofocus! K-5 sucked for indoor shooting AF was all over the place. Let's hope things improve here but with Ricoh price ramps and dumb prices on lenses, Pentax are doomed to an even smaller market share. Until they sell it off and some other meat head company picks it up to mess around with.
