The One and Only One Official Pentax Web Domain Left

http://pentaxplus.jp/index.html
(in Japanese)

A quick check on the registration information confirms that this web domain was registered and is still being held by the "Pentax Ricoh Imaging Company Co, Ltd." which was also renamed anyway.

It is noted that the registration will soon expire by fall March this year. Hope that this last official "Pentax" website will be kept. Nonetheless, some photos in this website are great and worth a look.

I like it too. I stopped visiting PF. Went there today and read the same tired arguments from Norm and the other dyed in the wool APSC people. So lame. Actively campaigning to stop a FF camera==PF users (what's left).

Photography camera market shrunk 50% in size in between 2011 and 2013. And the analysiz show it iz to shrink another 33% within the next 18 monthz.
Az you say, it iz now perfect time for Pentax to splurge a huge pile of money down the drain and issue a brand new FF camera; not just one, but a few, and entire systemz of lensez.

90% of stats and predictionz are wrong.
Rice, maybe you should register pentax.com
What if Ricoh comes out with the full frame? Will the bashing continue? Most likely, otherwise this blog will no longer have a purpose. If Pentax is really a dead brand/division/company then I suggest that you go through the grieving process and move on.
Just imagine Ricoh had launched the A7. The bashing would be violent and bloody in this blog...
I find the negative comments about this blog amazingly childish. I too will miss the Pentax name and question the wisdom of Ricoh in trying to establish a new brand. This is typical for Japanese marketing..very few Japanese companies other than Sony and Toyota understand the value of their reputation and the brand.

I wish Ricoh all the best in resurrecting their brand. I know I will not be buying any a Ricoh product other than copier.
@Richard: on the one hand, people defending Ricoh/Pentax and writing good about APS-C products are, in this blog, often accused of being "fan boys". On the other hand, what could be more "fanboyish" than clutching a brand? A brand does have value in marketing, and subconsciously a customer may attach a calue to it, but openly saying that it is the _brand_, as opposed to product quality, one is looking for when making a purchase decision - seems irrational to me.

Whether or not it is "smart" by Ricoh to use Pentax as a product brand but drop the company name, time will tell. To me it seems a natural step. And it is not the big deal that Rice is making out of it: Ricoh has NOT stated in any way it does not want to continue the product brand Pentax. Quite the contrary. Plus, everybody reading this blog knows already where to look for Pentax DSLRs: at Ricoh. So product recognition is also not affected. So what's the big deal?

Chris, There was a good thread on dpreview recently about someone who switched to full frame. The moderators deleted a very good post by unexpresivecanvas. Now that is fanboish behavior at its worst. You're not even allowed to say your opinion that full frame is better. This will change overnight if Pentax releases a full frame. Then all of a sudden, you'll be missing out without it. Admit this.

I don't understand this fanboy delusion. I can understand devotion to friends and family but to a brand of consumer electronics? It's beyond me. I also can't understand the vilification of a design that's clearly better, although marginally more expensive. Full frame, now with 36mp, hands down whips APS-C and is more comparable with medium format, yet still just about mobile enough.
I would certainly buy a Pentax FF at a price point up to 3k.

But I prefer a Pentax APS-C to any other currently available APS-C, because I honestly believe Pentax has the best offering in this market segment, from JPG image quality out of camera (I usually do not shoot RAW because I do not like to do PP on every image) to ergonomics and usability, plus the lens offering (from fish-eye 10mm to medium tele 300mm).

I believe it is a major achievement for the relatively small Pentax company that they manage to "be different" and actually make better offerings to the semi-pro/amateur photographer than the big names who produce excellent high-end cameras and then derive the semi-pro offerings by deliberately omitting features and downgrading stuff.

Brand? I couldn't care less. However, I do like to support a company that is not #1 or #2 on the market, because I believe the oligopoly of Canikony on the DSLR market is not good for the consumer. But this is a side thought and does not drive my purchase decisions.

Sony a7 makes k3 an immediate redundancy.. Pentax completely depends on Sony sensor.. Pentax lose lose situation. Sony a7 sucks pentax blood..

Not sure it's that bad to be honest, the A7 isn't really the same thing. If you have Pentax lenses then it's manual focus only and there's issues with shutter shake, it's not an action cam, rather an art cam. Many lenses also won't adapt, smearing, vignetting.

I'd sooner have a K-3 over an A7 simply because it's got all round capability with Pentax lenses.

Ricoh wouldn't have bought Pentax if they didn't think it would survive and prosper. So I suspect they'll be investing in product development well into the next few years.
Seriously? How come that there are K-3 customers anyway?
I've seen A7 pictures and I'm not impressed at all.
But I AM impressed by the performance of my K-3 with the 20-40 Ltd. or the 70 Ltd.
There are pentax user who bought A7 over k3 ... I am not impressed with k3 at all.. A7 fullframe depends on user capabilities.. They don't scream .. But you need to see more pictures to concluded your findings.. Fanboys will say what fanboys says.
