Pentax Optio VS20 Super Zoom Compact

20X zoom lens from 28mm wide, 16 megapixels (1/2.3"?) CCD, dual shutter release buttons, one for horizontal and one for vertical shooting:-

I am not impressed with that black on silver design which looks odd to my eyes, at least.

And I am not impressed with the grip, or the lack thereof. It seems more trouble changing the hold in order to use the second shutter release button, especially since this is not a high-end and heavy camera when it may be necessary to get the most comfortable hold for the steadiest shot so as to get high quality pictures.

Well... Gays it just P&S cheap camera. What do you expext? It will not have MkII specification
Hey welcome to 2012 and Pentax only discovers a super zoom compact around 6-7 years behind everyone else!
Ok it's just a p&s but the additional shutter release is frankly a gimmick, no raw = big yawn all around.
"no raw = big yawn all around."

AH AH AH ! did you saw the spec and the very low number of button ? didn't you realize it's a consumer P&S ? a very basic P&S for those you just want to P&S without thinking about everything else !
Wow must buy one (NOT)
So let me see, we've had no reviews yet (of course) and already people are bashing it? Who knows, Pentax may have actually come up with great in cam jpgs, which most of their P&S cams have not scored that well on, to be honest. Who buys a P&S for RAW anyway? I'd buy this for my kids or even for my wife, who sometimes wishes that her K10D was less bulky, but ONLY if the jpgs were great. Let's see if any reviews turn up soon...

There are no reviews but we can still make educated guess based on known specs.

Such as the tiny sensor - unless the moon is made of cheese I am willing to bet noise will start to become obvious around 400 and pretty much dismal around 800+, with a harsh DR range to booth.

Otherwise, the dual shutter could be a gimmick for some people - but they'd better make a clever advert for it. Otherwise consumers won;t know such thing because this 'feature' feels so trivial.
Dudes there are lots of superzoom compacts out there from Canon, Fuji, Pannie and many others.
I can't see what this offers that the others do not bar another shutter button (gimmick)
Yes Fuji do have Raw on many of their models and the EXR sensor, this on the other hand looks neither interesting nor does it have what others do. Instant fail IMO

But hey when was the last time Pentax made a compact camera you wanted to actually buy?
So they only get around to making a superzoom compact in 2012 talk about late to the party it's "over dudes"
