More Rumours: Upcoming K-3 and New Lens

Read this post at the Japanese Kakaku Forum written by a Japanese Pentaxian who has heard some secrets from the dealer, for the following:

- The K-3 will be announced near end October.
- 20MP APS-C sensor, possibly made by Sony.
- AA filter less.
- 100% viewfinder at 1.0X.
- Black body marketed first, followed by Silver colour later, first marketed at around 120,000 Japanese Yens (i.e., US$1200) for the body-only price, no kit.

And then also another rumour from yet another poster for additional information:

- New camera (K-3) will be on show at Salon de la Photo at Paris from 7 to 11 November at Paris.
- New DA 18-70 F2.8 lens will be announced together.

So, assuming these rumours are true, are you excited, or actually just much pissed off?? Well, I would just buy the $298 Sony A3000 kit myself right away, of which the body is having the same Sony new sensor inside, which IMHO is the main selling point of the new "K-3"! >:-(

I think it is time to switch over to a Sony a3000. Sony controls their sensor, camera body tech and their prime lenses are 1/2 cheaper. Sony has more third party lens support. I don't think there is any reason to stick around with Pentax. Especially with the price hike on their prime lenses, it is not worth it to invest in Pentax anymore.

I hope the new 18-70 f2.8 will be WR coated...

Also after seeing the Dpreview first impression i would buy a K-50 WR ...Low screen quality means weather will affect the screen (cold weather) and i am not sure really sure about low light focus..It would be pain in the ass..
Are you excited ? Why should I ?
The Sony A3000 is just a NEX in a SLR looking plastic shell with a low resolution LCD and EVF. It's small toy-like camera and not even as solid as NEX. I bet if you drop it once in the grass it breaks.

However...... If the new Pentax camera really is using the same sensor as the Sony A3000 it will be a huge embarrassment to Ricoh and the butt of many jokes!

I'm concerned about the lenses with the A3000. I'm sick of searching for the few remaining film lenses that have been bid up to crazy levels and hoarded by collectors. The forums are in agreement that the older FA, FA*, FA LTD, F*, A* lenses render better.

With the A3000, won't you have an even harder time getting the good legacy Minolta lenses? Or are the new Sony lenses just as good?

APS-C end of October is PERFECT timing. They go APS-C again, and I can take advantage of the Thanksgiving Friday sales and get into a Canon6D.

Or they can announce a full frame and I'll be even happier.

Nothing special, unusual or unexpected: the Ricoh (Pentax) as it is.
(Pretty small sensor and enough big price for the camera with such sensor ;-) )
really don't care anymore - just started selling my pentax stuff.

You're such a fun Rice. So did you sell your 21MP 5D Mark Something after the A30000 piece of trash was announced? Is 5DMkXX worth a few thouzand $$ on top of K-3's 20MP or A30000's?
What "source" doesn't mention is the class leading AF, radical increaze in performance, next gen image procezzor that will leave any 5D in dust. Plus a senzor glide shift operating mode to capture 40MP files with amazing clarity — stuff that was rezerved for MF so far. All that using your good DA glass. Now Nikon and Canon will roll in pain, becauze they never invested in body senzor stabilization.
I think many have no idea what they're missing now; many will start selling back their Nikon D600 plasticz to get one of theze babiez.

You're getting to conclusions too quickly, or maybe you're just trying to be provocative. If you're gonna buy an A3000 well that's fine, but at least wait for full specs before stating the Sony would be a fair substitute to the K-3-or-what-else.

Hold on boys all this talk about sensor size shows how you have become brain damaged by the digital size race, I remember 15 years ago I paid £750 for a MZ-S and BG10 and also paid about £290 for a MZ7 they both used the same sensor Kodak Gold 100/Fuji Provia, the build quality of a camera counted in those days !!!, and it still counts today, Fuji have launched a camera system of quality, and the K3 will be a much better built camera than Sony's NEX3000, and worth the extra.

Which rumor wins? 20 MP or 24 MP?

DA 18-70 F2.8 sound interesting to me...
18-70, not bad, but, I would like to have a bit slower lens, but wider ! I would like to see some better range lens, as the Olympus 12-60 in FT or 16-85. If Pentax could do something like a 16-85 F/2.8-F/4, it would be awsome. I really like the prime lens in the Pentax lineup, but honestly, the zoom are really less interessent.

As a photojournalist, zoom are very important to me. The 18-135 disapoint me a lot, find it really soft. The 50-135 is too short, a 50-150 as what Sigma do would be a minimum to me. Pentax need some imagination on the lens side. If not, why would any photograph stay with Pentax
To me, Pentax K5iis is an excellent performer as a body, seriously, I think it's the best APS-C reflex in a photojournalist angle. Very well build, in fact the toughest APS-C camera with a today sensor (D300s is out of the league now). Very good in low light, low noise level until 6400. It has a fast, an accurate focusing unit. It would be the perfect body for many user if Pentax has a better zoom lens lineup!

For that reason, 2/3 of my zoom lens are from third-part (for a better zoom range, or speed), but actually few are weather seal, so cancel the real reason why I choose the K5iis instead of the D7000 and Canon 7D.
I would like to see a Pentax version of the very nice 11-16 f/2.8 of Tokina, a XX-400 relatively fast zoom lens and a 16-85 F/4. All WR version of course, cause it mainly why people choose Pentax instead of NIKANON APS-C product..

So I really wish Pentax will open their eyes and start producing some good pro-grade zoom glass to attract some new user and to KEEP their long time client. I'm not that interest in a FF camera as the Field of View isn't that important to me, as I'm shooting with fast glass and using it for journalism.

The new Om-D EM-1 and Zuiko glass really start to attract me, If nothing new really happen until Febr, I may change my well-equiped Pentax system for the Oly.. Too bad Ricoh. it's sad.

Wow, DPR is deleting any thread with a rumour and banning members! http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/general-talk/2... Moderator is out of control.
