DxOMark for NEX-7 (Sony New 24MP APS-C Sensor)

It seems that the new 24M sensor of Sony has been able to maintain its Image Quality whilst packing more pixels (hence higher resolution) into the same APS-C size. Not bad. Hopefully and possibly this new sensor will be incorporated into upcoming new Pentax DSLR flagship, if any.

Looks good. It will be interesting to see how well the new 20 mp Samsung sensor in the NX200 will test out. It's interesting that the Nikon 1 has an Aptina sensor and Aptina does have DSLR specific sensors. I wonder if Nikon will use them for future DSLRs at some point?

The Nikon 1 sensor's performance is impressive. According to the DxO test results, in just only 1" size, it matches with the large 4/3 sensors of those latest m4/3 cameras and is indeed only slightly worse than those Samsung cameras with that last generation of the Samsung 14.6M sensor.

So, if Aptina is to make an APS-C or even FF sensor, I think it should be also good. However, whether they have the capability to build larger sensors is yet another question.

For me it seems that rather Samsung and m4/3 sensors are rather poor, not that Nikon 1 is good ;)

Anyway, its good that new Sony sensor is not so bad as some people here and there expected it to be, because Nex 7 really looks promising. When price drops and Sony releases some more lenses (like 12-24 UWA) then I'm in!
24MP sensor in new Pentax DSLR? No, thanks! I would rather purchase K-5.

The 16M sensor in the K-5 is outdated.

Do not think that 24 mp does better than 16 in aps-c, may be in very low ISOS and low apertures. According to the imaging resource samples, sony new-7 struggles with red color a lot. Most lenses have problems even with 16 mp.
So what? It could be bad for marketing to incorporate an old sensor in a new camera. But for me, and many others, quality is very important. 24MP won't give me more resolution, and I don't need night ISO. So I would select an outdated sensor with better overall quality rather a new-baked one.
Sensor technologies advance with time, the newer is always better.
In ideal world - yes. But we live in the world ruled by the market. 24MP are excessive.
