A Set of K-5 Vs 6D Real-life Direct Comparisons

http://forum.xitek.com/thread-1138503-3-1-1.html
(in Simplified Chinese)

Two cameras were used at almost the same time to shoot almost the same thing. The Pentax lenses used were DA*16-50 and the FA77LE. Canon lens used was only the "cheap" EF24-105L kit zoom.

There are many sets of comparisons. As direct linking is not allowed by the Xitek server, please click on the small sample pictures in the above thread and open into a new tab/window one by one to compare them yourself! Simple EXIF data is provided underneath each picture.

So, after inspecting a few sets. My conclusion is easy, as the difference is obvious. The K-5 is helpless in IQ when it is compared to a Canon FF, even the Pentax glasses used are more expensive! That's also the simple conclusion that can be drawn from my own practical experience, too, which is for quite long now!

What do you mean for "rendering"? :-o

It's the bokeh. Other than that, I see no difference.

My congrats to you then. You can continue to enjoy your K-5 without any new desire! ;-)

Well, then please explain to me in detail how the 6D is so much better, other than the Bokeh (the more shallow DOF, to be precise).
That will come in the next blog post. ;)
Good for Canon.
And good example that 6D is pretty overpriced.
What to do?
Who has deep pockets will enjoy the FF sweetness.
Colors are different, more saturated on the K5. The dof is more shallow for the 6D (see for example the leaves of trees where kids are playing). Resolution is different to judge when modified by a computer software that compressed the pics to 1087x725 pixels. The same for the dynamical range which seems a little bit better on the 6D.

Probably, the most important difference is in the eyes of the blogger, either a bias the beloved K5 we own, or a bias towards the 6D because we are ridiculously angry at not seeing an FF Pentax camera.

I don't know why is someone angry, but ridiculous ... wow.. Comparing apples with watermelons, and concluding that watermelon is .... bigger ... Total suprise.

Nothing about colors and everything else in the japanese link. That is a really usefull post.
They both look lame.
I am not sure that in all cases the bigger sensor brings better colors.
Oh, good. Now that the Sigma 18-35 F1.8 ($799 only!!!) is made available for Pentax, I am going to buy the K5. Finally, no reason to go FF.

Comparing these two cameras side by side I don't see much difference (only in colour, which is easily corrected to your own taste). Obviously I suffer from an eye impediment when I say the 6D is a waste of your money and probably I also suffer from a mental illness when I say that the constant slaying of a good camera (K-5, II, IIs) because it isn't 'FF' (Fool's Frame, I think it stands for), is not worthy of a serious Pentax forum or any brand forum.
Be serious man, and either stop writing about Pentax products, or swallow your bile and start taking this seriously.
I need a new glasses. please where I can see a better quality of the canon?
People, don't bother: In a blind test, judging the photos shot with the same DOF, RiceHigh would choose K-5-pictures as better. :)

@RiceHigh, if Pentax causes so much pain in someone's life, one should abort it.

And shut down his blog?
You have got to be kidding....
if the picture teach me one thing then that the difference in IQ is rather neglectable. K5 pictures have better contrast, but that could be corrected with the 6D shots. Clearly more bang for the buck with K5.

Human psychology is such that the first few words make the biggest impact. Who is so patient to read all the comments posted here? A very small percentage only. When the Guru says that "the K-5 is helpless", this evokes the immediate reaction: no need to read or look more. The biggest impact that is produced on this blog comes not from you, posters, but from Rice's comments, negative or positive. Such is human psychology.

The feature 2 feature the 60d has over the k5 II is the dof and mp count. the 60d slower max frame rate has a smaller memory buffer has a slower max shutter speed has a smaller dynamic range and for all this you pay almost a $1000 more for it.
