Sony A900 Discontinued; No More Sony DSLR of Any, FF or APS-C!

Further to the official discontinuation of the A850 back to May, now Sony has announced the discontinuation of the A900:-

See the Japanese words "生産完了" which just means "discontinued".

And a glance to the current Sony SLT/SLR lineup reveals that the A900 is actually the last Sony SLR that has been discontinued, which implies that Sony will have no DSLR in their lineup, at least in the meantime, and the future is yet unknown.

Even if Sony would not build FF cameras any more, the Minolta crowd had at least the chance to buy a FF camera. The remainders will last a few months. Last chance to pick up a FF body for the Minolta bayonet ?

Why do you say that "no more Sony DSLR of any, FF or APS-C"? They just released the A77.

A77 and A65 are only SLTs, not SLRs.

So, Canon, Nikon and Pentax are the only popular DSLR brands. I hope under the new leadership of Ricoh, Pentax could do better and a re-planned Pentax K-mount DSLR system could be seen in the near future.
SLT is a toy; maybe great for movies but toy-like for still pictures. Why? Because it is inevitably combined with a digital viewfinder, which is (with current technology) far worse than an optical viewfinder. So Sony is saying goodbye to the pro and semipro market. Sony has therefore killed Minolta.

It's down to Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax - did I forget anybody?

Pentax and the K mount - I'm optimistic about that - will prevail in the long run.

Olympus 4/3 SLR system is also dying.
In fact, now only Canon and Nikon for the pro, Canon, Nikon AND ... PENTAX for the semi pro, this is great news ... if Pentax could attract some of the Olympus and Minolta/Sony desesperate users.
I like it !
But on the other side, since Sony itself fails, we won't see any FF in the Pentax line-up ...
The Sony A580 is a true DSLR, it's discontinued already?

Yes, see the above official Sony website. It is in the discontinued models list.
Oh, too bad that Pentax is still left alone! :-(
