645D DxOMark is Out

Here it is:-

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/Camera-Sensor/All-tested-sensors/Pentax/645D

While the IQ of the 645D is higher than average, when compared to the majority of mainstream DSLRs, it does no better than the 135 Full Frame Nikon D3X nor the MF Phase One P40 (which is of about the same resolution). See this Comparison.

In fact, the 645D loses in all 3 major aspects under test, namely, colour depth, dynamic range, high ISO performance and hence obtains the lowest score amongst the 3 cameras in the comparison.

hmm i;m a bit confused. Is that means 645D does not have significant advantage over FF cameras?
compare to Nikon D3s, it has the same overall score of 82. D3x surpassed it by 6 points.

How about DOF-control (i recently saw an interesting 100+ years old image made with a relatively wide lens and not too close subject, yet the subject was separated better than any DSLR of today could achieve)? More details than any DSLR? It is easy to forget that it actually has a higher pixel count.

Anhow, Mr. RiceHigh, please have a look at the DR-page of the 645 - as you see, one stop lost per each doubling of sensitivity, thus no variable gain.

In (the distant?) future medium format cameras will be using CMOS-sensors - CCDs simply can not compete any more against modern CMOS-sensors, when it comes it image quality apart from some spesific uses.

Compared to Phase One the AF of the Pentax should be far superior, as well as environmental shielding. Too bad it doesn't have SR ;)

Oh, and the Pentax is half the price of the P1.

Anyhow, the results are roughly what should have been expected - this is a budget medium format camera especially good for outdoor use. It has it's own niche and it fits there nicely. Of course it is kind of sad, but also exiting that a CMOS much smaller yields better S/N etc. than a medium format CCD.

Compare with Hasselblad H3DII 50 and Leaf Aptus75S (20 000 USD and 33 000 USD)
"While the IQ of the 645D is higher than average" - it's not truth. One of the best.

Now is where you do not take into account neither the DOF advantage of 645D over FF nor the resolution advantage (which were basically the ONLY "advantages" you promoted so much in arguing for FF over APS-C).
The difference in the DxO test is purely theoretical, not really relevant in real life conditions. The results from 645D, when camera is used as it should, are stunning, as real life samples show.
By the way, the 645D is way too expensive for me (and two good for my needs). This is just a reply to your biased reasonings.

uhm......thats one of the reason that you wil use a MF camera, the extra control over the DOF? And that is not a valid reason.
If you can remember, Ansel Adams was part of a group f/64.........

Because if you continue with this reasoning then your agument about Pentax not having a FF or rather a 35mm sensor is proven not valid. Ain't it?
